View Full Version : SA Meet and Greet?
Offender90
18th November 2011, 12:31 PM
There's been a bit of talk about a local meet and greet lately, which seems to have died a natural death. We've got a diverse range of SA people / vehicles on AULRO, and it would be great to put a few faces to names, so to speak.
Is there any interest for an SA AULRO meet and greet in early December? Say Saturday the 2nd or the 9th?
I was thinking a pub somewhere for a meal / bevvy with possibly a carpark nearby for a show and tell. I'll put the Governor Hindmarsh forward as a potential venue, but am open to suggestions. Anyone with a Land Rover or interest in a Land Rover welcome.
Thoughts / interest anyone?
Cheers

Seeing as the Land Rover Register (SA) already exists and has AULRO members, shouldn't you talk to them too? I spoke at one of their meetings and they look like a good strong group.

Very noble of you to think of David... not being familiar with Adelaide, how far would Crafers West be from the Balhannah pub?
Jibes aside, I suggested The Gov because I've been there before, its relatively central and has a large carpark. I'm happy to change the venue to suit the majority, so if most people coming happen to live near Balhannah, I'd be happy to meet at the Balhannah pub - whatever results in the largest turnout.
I suggest we give it a couple of days to narrow it down to which day suits most people, and then we can sort out the venue. To get the ball rolling, I'm equally available on both the 2nd and the 9th.

Great idea! I initially suggested a pub for wanting to keep it simple to maximise turnout, but a BBQ in a park could work even better, so long as the location is relatively central.
Eastern suburbs or in the foothills possibly, considering a few may be coming down from the hills?
So, I would greatly appreciate if you could post your location (to help picking a relatively central location) and indicate preferences for:
Date: Saturday December 3rd or Saturday December 10th
Venue: Pub or BBQ in a park
You can also PM me your location if you want to keep it private.
My preferences:
Location: Grange, SA
Date: Prefer 10th, available both
Venue: Prefer Pub (purely selfish reasons i.e. less to organise), happy to organise either

Dont really care where.
Torrens Arms
Andamooka (ok, a little far, maybe...)
Eyre Hotel (maybe not for a day trip)
or, if you are looking for a park, how about Burnside, Tusmore or similar.
Close to the foothills, room for kids, sorta halfway between north & south....

The concensus apears to be "organise it and they will come". With that in mind, keep the Saturday 10th December free for lunch, say 1pm onwards.
Stay tuned on the venue - the BBQ in the park is tempting, thinking either Hazelwood or Tusmore Park. I'll try to drive past on the weekend and confirm early next week.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Hazelwood Park looks the goods, so BBQ in the park it is. Details below:
WHEN: Saturday, December 10 at 12pm
WHERE: Hazelwood Park, at the BBQ area near the North-East car park (BBQ Area 1 on map below)
WHAT TO BRING: Meat for the BBQ and a salad if you can, bevvies / refreshments, Camping chairs, a folding table (if you have one), a good hat, sunscreen.
If anyone has a portable/camper trailer mounted BBQ that they want to bring, that would be great too. There are a handful of public BBQs which are in excellent condition, however there may be a queue to use one if we're not there early enough.
Please post if you're coming (or not) to let me know, and more importantly, to keep this thread alive. :o)
Hope to see you all there

If we can use it, I can possibly get a trailer mounted BBQ, which will negate the need for using the public BBQ's.
Only issue will be, where can we set it up?
In the meantime, I will make a few inquiries....

Basil,
That would be great if you could. I saw a trailer mounted BBQ (and a couple of Alfa Romeo's) parked on the lawn when I was there yesterday, so I'm guessing it's possible to drive into the park to set up. I'll enquire with the council tomorrow to check what's required to get permission.
Assuming we can get it, there is a good spot to set up at the north-west corner of the park, right down by the creek...

Finally OK'd it with the council, trailer mounted BBQ permitted on the lawn provided its hand wheeled into position, to prevent damage to the lawn and /or injury to park users.
I can meet you there early, to provide "intellectual" help positioning the trailer. May also take you up on the icebox offer.

I realised after the event that I missed about 3 cars (including my own!) and errmmm... most of the people! :wasntme:
Thankfully, I was not the only one with the camera, so lets hope a few more photos surface shortly.
Thanks again all for a great day, and hopefully we'll see you at the next one (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/upcoming-events/140409-sa-meet-greet-2-barossa-feb-march.html).
Cheers
