96 landrover fuel pump location?

hi guys,
my fuel pump isnt working and i was just wondering if someone can help me and tell me where the fuel pump is on my 96 lr, 3.9lt petrol and gas, i opened the plate in the rear floor and it wasnt there, im guessing its in the right hand rear somewhere?????

also another thing this arvo i tried to start it on gas after a scorcher of a day and it kept turning but wouldnt start, i had it running this morning with no probs, any ideas?????

The pump is in the tank - access through the rear floor and the fuel filter is in the drivers side rear wheel arch.

thanks garry, is there anything that i need to do ie. drop gas tank or anything out of the ordinary?

I only did it once and that was about 12 years ago. Just remove the access plate in the floor and if I remember correctly there is a large collar on the top of the tank that you unscrew and then pull the pump out. The tank does not need to come out.

Someone should be along with more up to date and detailed information.

If you can easily access the floor plate access then I assume you don't have the manifold tank on the cargo floor or the behind the seat tank.
That leaves the twin tank underfloor set up.
If you have the under floor setup then that means your fuel tank is probably in the drivers side quarter panel.

To access the fuel pump you will need to drop the quarter panel tank onto the ground.

hi utemad, i do have underfloor setup, im pretty handy and wanted to do it myself to save money this close to xmas, can u give me a quick rundown about dropping the tank from the quarter panel? cheers sammo

Hi Sammo,
It all depends on how your tank is bolted up. You need to find all the mounts, look around the tank. Rear corner tanks are often bolted through the rear floor. Soak all bolts with penetrating oil. You may have to remove the grommet around the filler neck to allow it to drop with the tank. There are at least a dozen different conversion tanks that are fitted under D1's and of course they all mount differently. Lower it with wood blocks and an old 20 litre drum, or a large trolley jack. You will need to disconnect the fuel pipes and wires when you can just reach them, ie half lowered.

Most corner tanks come out in 1/2 hour if all the bolts are not rusted up.;)

Sammo - might have helped if you had indicated you had the LPG system in place of the tank - obviously if the tank is not there the fuel pump will not be there also.
