I don't know what to say.
I few months back I announce I'm buying a new 4wd and next thing I know, others have jumped in on the band wagon and traded landrovers in also.

Damn are the new VW Amarok that good???

Mmmmm I had mine a week and did Melb to Innamincka and back in 3 days. The comfort lever was insane. It road Bette than the 2 110's I have. It returned 9l/100km. It is quiet. It soaks up corrugations like nothing ive driven. It's no Rae car. But damn nice. I love it.

Facts. Hitting an emu at 100km in an Amarok is not fun. But the damage was not visable. But there is damage. Hard to explain. But I hit it dead square. It destroyed the honeycomb in the bumper. Bent the Ac Condensor and bent my Rego plate. I'll post pix. Or look on my face book page

Once again it is awesome. I love it. No I wont sell the county. But the Rok is nuts on how nice it is. Climbing sand dunes was way easier than I expected.

So far I have spoken to 4 land rover people stepping out of D3's and D2's to buy a Amarok.

The seats. Man the seats. 14 hours in them
And we got out refreshed.

I could drive it faster and safer than the previous utes I've had or landrovers.

Ok the catch. It's not a RRS it's not a RR. It's not a disco. It's not a 110. It has it's quirks.

I do love it as a work car and tourer. But I'll never give up a V8 rover

Ok I've stirred you up now.
Now where is Redback. It's time he made a comment!!!!!

Yeh but I heard they break easily and you can't get parts for them and no one will touch them in the bush. The bloke who told me was told that by a bloke he knows who met a guy who drives a Toyota that told him and he knows because his mate lives at kick-a-tin-along. Pat

I have looked at them with interest!
But how do they perform towing, as they only have a two litre engine?
I realise that they have lot's newton thingy's, but in reality how do they pull a double horse float (with horses) or a low loader with a vehicle on it in hilly country at a decent roadspeed.....not 40 kmh?

Cheers, Mick.

I personally don't know. But. I carry 600kg of crap and it's fine. But as pat said. I know a guy in NZ who tows a 80' viscount with his Suzuki vitara.

Seriously. A guy on the VW forum tows a patrol comp rig with his and has no complaints.

Pat. I met him at the Innamincka pub. He looked at the Rok and told me its a rebadged BT50. I just smiled and let him finish his light beer shandy.
Parts yes may be an issue this early into its life. Strength. No one has flogged on yet on the VW forum except mine has had a dukes of hazard moment. Same place I launched the defender. Yeeee har.

Time will tell. As it did the D3. It's a VW so it should be ok.

The Isuzu's are having their share of problems too,the HV mechanic who's servicing my Puma is having them come in on a weekly basis for cronic engine warnings/self protect take it to a dealer issue's.Thats the way life is now. Pat

Yes, true Pat. Its stupid that the very methods they try and use to clean up the environment make the engines less efficient and cause MORE fuel use and early wear and tear:mad::mad:

The Rok's have issues also. Touch wood mine does not. But mine is already 18 months old. March 2010 built. Sat in Argentina until August this year. Not uncommon.
If you drive it like the Dakar adverts its awesome. Loves dirt in 4wd high.
Chip is next to get it to 480nm. Poor little 2 litre. Hey super tourer. Where is Ricard rydel when I want him???

Want an update after 2 years???

New engine at 79k. Timing belt was destroyed due to drive belt going thru the timing cover. Pistons bit valves.

New clutch at 79k as the idiots forgot I mentioned the shudder. So the gearbox came out.

Rattle in the headlining. Like a nut in the pillar moving.

Fuel filler cover won't unlock randomly. Have to pull inner wheel liner off to get to it.

Diff whines. They claim this is normal. 79k old.

Clunk and vibration in driveline. Wait for the last post.

Trailer lights make the indicators flash fast. Genuine VW towbar and ECU box.

Took 6 attempts to get one dealer to attempt to fix these.
Doing so they damaged the front guard. The repair was something your 3yo could finger paint.
Bolts left loose on the bull bar.
CB antenna cable cut to get the bar off. They used joiners and tape to connect it.
Oil left all under the cross member. Brake fluid on the panels just wiped off. Not washed.

Best part. Vibration when I picked it up after 8weeks. 500km later the tailshaft came adrift and trashed the underside.

VW are looking into buying it off me due to the drama the dealer created.

Who was the Dealer?? PM me

Happy? Not a freaking chance.

Pointless. It was reflashed when the motor was replaced. Another thing that upset me. They knew it was chipped and I signed a document to stop them flashing it. But they did it anyhow.

I can see your frustration, what idiots. Think I'll get crispmods to flash ours, seems to be the way to go.
Its a real shame as I think they are a great car, and if they bring out a v6 diesel model, its good bye to the landrover world for me.
