The truck is only about 10 metres from where he hit the bridge, he must have had to scrape himself off the windscreen with the way that would have stopped:twisted:

It's moments like these when you start to question if the $20M public liability insurance you have is enough...:p
I hope his policy is up to date...

It goes to show how stong the trailer coupling is. I would have thought it would have poped off the truck with that force.

nahh, probably american most of those guys have got a built in deceleration bag the provides initial slowdown on contact with the steering wheel and then it pushes up to protect the ribcage before fully deforming to cushion the head and neck.

When I read the title I thought it was going to be these pics. Singles Only - Transport Disasters - Main Page (http://www.cargolaw.com/2000nightmare_singles.only.html#can-of-Deere)
Greek flagged, 799-foot tanker M/T Elka Apollon with 24 crew on board (10 Greeks & 14 internationals) collided with Panama flagged vessel M/V MSC Nederland in the Houston Ship Channel on Oct. 31 2011, causing damage to both and a small hydraulic fuel leak.
The U.S. Coast Guard responded to the collision at 9:47 am. They say the container ship and chemical tanker ran into one another at the Bayport Ship Channel and Houston Ship Channel intersection near light 75.

A bit surprising that an obviously quite substantial bridge collapses under that kind of lateral force. I would have expected the digger to be pulled off the trailer instead of the bridge collapsing.

considering that apart from weight, there is little more holding each section in place other than 16 rag bolts, which would be more to prevent lateral movement when a train goes over it, its not exactly suprising that maybe 25-30 tonnes of machinery travelling at highway speeds did that damage.....
the bridge simply wasnt designed to take that kind of force applied in that direction
