Hi
Im about to replace mine, Question, do we use gasket cement between the head, steel gasket and the regulator?? If so what sort? The gasket is of the type that should not need cement from what I can find out?

Sick of leaving little puddles of fuel on everyones driveways, it's a pain in the xxx to do and I want to get it right!!

any help suggestion welcome

DO NOT use ANY sealant of any kind, a new gasket and O ring ( O ring Not mandatory, but best to do if it is effected by age they go hard and don't seal properly) is all that is req. If you D2 is a manual it is a lot more fiddly, but it isn't too much of a drama.

If we were fitting one in our workshop we would also fit a modified housing too, along with gasket and O ring. We would never fit just the regulator. And they change, depending on chassis number.

Hi, I read a thread a while back on rebuilding the regulator. I replaced my regulator a couple of years back as the best info I founf then was that rebuilds were a waste of time. The thread I recently read mentioned using Nitrile "O" rings and that these rebuilds were pretty good. Any chance I can get the info I need to rebuild using Nitrile. I need sizes or part numbers for both types of TD5 regs as I have volunteered myself to fix my mates 03 TD5 and I guess I wll have to do my 99 model someday.

The list of o rings and sizes are already on here somewhere so do a search for fuel pressure regulators and wont be hard to find. Black nights tutorial and Discovery2 UK's are also very helpful. There were some other good suggestions like using rubber bands to hold everything togeather while you reassemble it and guide dowels (cut down M8 x 1.25 x 60mm Bolts) You will soon find out when you start its a tricky job.

Thanks everyone for the replys, the help on here makes for a lot less stress when doing repairs most would not attempt

I got the modified on and the gaskets & O ring also going to replace the oil line to the altenator thats leaking too. Don't want to destroy another alternator due to oil getting all over the commutator.
