Some weeks ago, we visited a very important person in the history of Land Rover.
His name is Arthur Goddard and he is the Land Rovers' first Engineer.

After reading a newspaper article that we'd sent him on the ground-up restoration of our S2A 88", Arthur had invited us to visit him.
It was an honour to do so.
Our conversation with him and his son Chris was most interesting as the fascinating information on the early developmental years of Lode Lane, Solihull, flowed. All with tea and tea-cake, of course.
Arthurs' memory of those early years of the Series Land Rover is sharp and clear.

Arthur, a gentleman as you'd expect, delighted in inspecting our S2A. And we, of course, felt privileged to be in his company.

You can read about Arthurs' story in the book by author Michael Bishop:
'THEY FOUND OUR ENGINEER' - The Story of Arthur Goddard, the LAND ROVERS' first Engineer.

Sounds good Harry & Harry. If in Brissy should invite him along to one of our social functions, the Xmas party would have been perfect but guess you were too sloW for that :p

I hear chatter about him being approached as a Patron for a Tortoise Club and had a suggestion that could be good for us too... but with all the V8's in GCLRO think I know of someone much more suitable  What are the requirements for a Patron and do we need one? Do we really want to share our clubbish love and respect with another?

Personally i'm thinking GRIMACE FOR GCLRO PATRON [thumbsupbig]

The real missing link in this thread is the concept of balance and understanding between groups of like minded people, in my opinion. To this end, Grim would be a fine champion and club ambassador because his approach is always one of balance, hence his new bike - so I second the motion. :D

Firstly thanks for the history lessons in previous posts Harry & Harry.

Grimace GCLRO Club Patron & Merchandise Officer... if that doesn't scream 101 then what does? I JUST WANT ONE! (http://www.google.com.au/search?q=land+rover+101&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=1k_VTu2zG8KuiQezoMmlDw&ved=0CCMQsAQ&biw=1270&bih=891)
