G,day All.
Well I am still struggling with this issue. I found a small piece of what appeared to be Rat poo in the MAF and thought this may be the problem, but no luck. Now the truck does not start to misfire while driving. After driving and shutting down, start up agian it misfires. Leave for an hour or so and start and it's ok. I eventually found a garage with a T4 genuine land Rover scanner and he hooked up but could not get any codes because there is a problem somewhere, maybe in the connection plug or harness. I dont think it's an injector or the fuel pump for the reason that sometimes it does run fine. I have not pulled the top off the ECU because the main opinion on here is that it is a wasted exercise. What do you think?
cheers

If you've had oil in the injector harness, have you removed the seal from the connector at the ecu so that oil still working its way out of the engine harness can keep draining without shorting the connector pins?

I gues you have tried wriggling ECU, connectors and plugs while running?
Personally, if there was/ has been significant oil at the ECU plug and with your issues and being certain there are no chaffed/damaged wiring harness(perhaps after a clutch change, gearbox out) then I would pull the top off the ECU.
Just had a friends TD5 D2 sounding similar. The problem was caused by the wiring loom being left unsecured after the gearbox had been removed. Chaffing was causing intermittent issues similar to yours.
I have had oil in an ECU for the TD5.
It is straight forward job, but patience and care required so as not to damage the Aluminium housing cover. You will bend it a bit but it is easily straightened.
Use only an electrical cleaner, like "CRC Contact Cleaner" or smilar stuff.
Clean the old sealant from the cover and box being careful not to damage your PCB board.
Use a non acidic sealant i.e Loctite/ Permatex Ultra grey or blue. (acid cure sealnts like common Silicones cause corrosion and damage sensitive components) for resealing. Dont over do the sealant.
I had to pull mine apart on the side of a track in Arnhem Land (different problem) so doing it at home in the comfort of the carport or kitchen table will be a doddle.
cheers.

Well, I am confident that this misfiring problem is fixed. Unfortunately I created it.:( The problem turned out to be a bad connection in the new socket plug that I got from England and fitted to the main harness, where it connects to the Injector harness. One of the earth wires was not completely seated and resulted in an intermittent connection. I was checking the harness as suggested by good persons on here and I was able to make the engine misfire by wiggling the harness. I would like to thank all of you very much for your advice and hope that at sometime I may be able to help someone in need.
cheers, merry Xmas to you and your families.
