Hi all,
New to the site and have enjoyed reading your post providing invaluable info prior to purchasing my new 2011 Fuji White SE D4.
I was concerned about stone chips and not being able to purchase bonnet or head light prtotectors I found a company in Rydalmere Sydney called EXPEL who fit a clear protective film to vitrually any part of the ca they even had templates for the complete bonnet and door skins.
I had it fitted to the front bumper, driving lights, front grille, headlights, leading edge of the bonnet and front flares, mirrors,
and the whole rear wheel arch flares which wraps around and protects the painted inner edge of the flares as well, also had it fitted to the bottom tailgate where the top closes down and looks like it will rub.
If you didn't know it was fitted you wouldn't even see it the only place it is slightly noticeable is the bonnet.
The film is cut from computer generated templates on a machine even the Land Rover letters were cut out neatly.
It wasn't cheap but I feel well worth it to protect my new baby.
Cheers, Talby

Good one Talby,
I've seen this done on a Black GTI Golf.
It's not cheap, how much did it cost you?
Great protection though.

I us a similar film on the front of my race sidecar, as being so low it used to cop a lot of stone chips. It even held the fibreglass together when I had a bit of contact with someone else and allowed us to finish the race.

It sure does - no paint left on mine in various spots and getting worse right across the middle.

Ready when you are Graeme :D
I have also noted that the clear protective will be fitted as a gesture of goodwill from me.:p
And yes Graeme is right, they will rub especially if you drive on rougher roads:).

Tombie,
I have been chasing bonnet and particularly headlight/tail light protectors for some time, I even chased them in the UK and on the DISCO4.com site. Todate I have only been able to find a couple of bonnet protectors. EGR do make them for the D3 but not the D4.
What have you been able to find and from where?

Hi Sniegy
Would that rubbing thru be a warranty repair

I had the clear protection film done to one of my cars back in the UK, a VX220 we owned for a couple of years and toured Europe in (along with many a trackday where the frontend's get a rare old beating). They have a very bluff front and as it's made by Lotus, **** poor paint quality :p
Very durable stuff, not cheap to have done but as the car was black it was worth every penny as it saved us having to repaint the thing. I had the front end, sills, rear arches and the backs of the door mirrors done and I'd not hesitate to have it done again on a new car. Once the front is stone-chipped, it's pretty pointless having it done.
I will say this though, if the car is white then you may see it starting to go yellow over time, depending on the quality of the film. The rear arches on my VX had a factory applied film of very poor quality, at a year old it was already showing signs of going yellow so I replaced it with the same material as I'd had on the rest of the car. The company I used have a handy guide on their website for 'removing' the yellowing, may be worth bookmarking the page for future reference. I was one of the first to have them work on a car, the chap had only just set up the business when I took the car to him. Seems he's gone from strength to strength since then !

Hi Roamer,
If vehicle is in warranty then yes, dealer would need to do paperwork with some pic's & a quote from approved repairer ( called a PCR ) submit to LR, when given ok then to be repaired.

Lou,
I have bonnet protector on my D4, it is just one for a D3. The bonnet is the same shape & therefore fits perfectly.
For whatever reason LR don't advise it fits the D4:eek:

I used stone guard on my old FPV GT, good stuff.
Had it fitted from new until I sold it a few years later.
Didn't go yellow, just seemed to get more invisible the longer it was on.
The sale spool went along the line of – was developed for the US military for use in “Desert Storm” back in the early nineties, specifically to protect the carbon fibre rotor blades on the apache helicopters from sand particles.
Thumbs up for "Stone Guard"

I had OziShield paint protection film posted up from Victoria & applied it myself to the D4 over 12mths ago.
Fitted to mirrors, & front & rear wheel arches.
Good stuff and highly recommended.
Also fitted Aunger headlight protector plastic film. Also recommend that.

I was at a club trip with the Range Rover Club NSW and one member had it done to their D4 for the entire car. They worked for 3M, so got the film a lot cheaper, but I'm just putting it out there that the whole car can be done. :)

Yep, know the Aus distributor and the rotor blade protection story is true. It's good gear.

Hi Rich,
It was just over $1000 and the website for the film was xpel.com.au.

If you get bird poop on carbon fibre chopper blades it can de-laminate - with disastrous results !!!

Hi Rich,
Forgot to mention that was for the "Ultimate" which is the latest top of the range film which if scratched (I guess minor) will repair itself when left in the sun they also had cheaper films available.

I purchased a genuine land rover D4 bonnet protector from southern land rover in Perth last week.
$108.
15 mins to fit.
