2a FC camper

Not sure if its the done thing, but just in case people dont look at the markets section often there is a 1967 2a FC camper conversion for sale in Melbourne. It is listed in the markets section and I went and had a look at it this morning.

It doesn't suit my needs (mine will find me one day, I guess) as it is a very well fitted out 4 seat and 4 berth camper with proper (and a reasonably fresh) caravan style interior including excellent cabinetry and a well equipped kitchen. It is set up with 12v & 240v & gas systems. The vehicle was professionaly built and has been upgraded to a 3.9 isuzu diesel and Rangie classic 4 speed manual. Exterior could do with a tidy/freshen.

The seller is genuine and a pretty nice bloke. I understand he is negotiable on price depending on whether a buyer wants it with RWC and rego or not. If you are in the market for a pretty well set up camper/tourer, I reckon its worth a look.

1967 sounds a little young for an SIIa Forward Control? The SIIb were introduced in the UK in 1966 and being delivered to Australian customers in April 1967.

Not that it actually makes a lot of difference.

It does seem odd. Lights arrangement and chassis number seem to be conflicting. It's certainly undergone a few modifications - engine, gearbox, transfer, diffs, so not sure what it is technically.

If you don't mind can I have the chassis number for my FC register? The owner details will be anonymous down to a town or region.

I have seen a couple of fc with the wrong panels, both ways, but the most common is SIIb front on a SIIa. It probally is an indication of panel damage at some time.

Gee everybody and his dog must have owned that camper over the years.That's the vehicle that was indirectly responsible for your 2B being a little less than original Diana.
When Don MGilivray from 4x4 motors Blackburn bought it about 20 years ago it had a Holden 6 on standard running gear. We fitted a Stage One Salisbury rear and front axle assembly to it, and for some reason that escapes me now, we got Marks 4WDs to fit the Isuzu and LT95. When it came back from Marks, Don had bought the Sth African Police 2B and got me to remove the Salisbury front end from that and fit it to the Camper, but the Isuzu was in the way, so the Sals was sold instead off instead of being refitted to the
2B.:mad:.
Body roll with the underslung rear springs was a concern, so once again the poor 2B was robbed of its front antiroll bar , with the intention of fitting it to the back axle of the camper. Due to a very busy spell re used LandRover sales and preparation at the time. the antirollbar fitment didn't happen.The 2B was sold without it being refitted,and the rear Aeon rubber helper springs were spaced down on the Camper in an effort to reduce body roll.
That was the last I had and anything to do with that vehicle.
Diana, because stringing Don up by his testicles and introducing him to a long rubber hose is probably against the law,;) the next best thing is for you buy the camper and a sledge hammer to give it a thorough beating every time you feel like venting your frustrations over the cannibalisation of your pride and joy.;)

Hi Oliver. Yes, last time i saw it was in solid condition and with all the undernourished series 2a mechanical components replaced with later and stronger gear. Shame about the narrow track width though. My preference would have been to weld leaf spring perches to the 7'' wider 110 Salisbury rear diff assembly for a bit more stability.

When I bought it I had Fred Smith fit Disco rims with reversed centres, which helped a little with the stability. It's now gone to a buyer in NSW, not on this forum I think.

The 6-cyl Holden was fitted by Tony Brewis who was the one who first made it into a camper in about 1979.

Like the look of it but not the track width and its listed for $22,500. Has there been heap of work done to it recently to explain the price jump from 10g? Or am I just looking at a different vehicle....

The missus has always wanted a camper and something like this is about all I'm likely to ever buy.

Well it looks superb inside and the gearbox and engine combination sound very good.

It would be nice to drive it and see what the handling is like.
