Good choice, congrats!
The Golf is a very nice and high quality van.
The factory closed down but AVan bought all the jigs and parts so they will be able to help with parts if needed.

Very good!

I looked at and would have liked one of those but settled on a much lesser van to see if we can make enough use of a van to warrant investing more or to scrap the whole idea.

Excellent choice, only ever heard good things about Golf vans.

That is excellent news about it also having solar. Its very difficult to go free camping properly with a full size van without solar. A 18 footer is a good all round size as well, not to big or small.

The best thing we ever did was buy a good off road van, makes last minute decisions on having a bush camping weekend away so easy to do compared to a camper/tent etc.

cheers,
Terry

Took it over a weighbridge this morning,,
4.04 all up.
1.62 with just the trailer wheels on the bridge,,
broken jockey wheel so no ball weight yet--:(.

The good news is I ran up to Oakey sans the hayman reese battleship towball hitch,, while I could tell the difference, I'm happy to run without,,
I might not sell the HR hitch just yet,,
I want to play around with ball weights, (who'd a thunk??:p), and the van ( I think-----) sits ever so slightly nose up.

Both Mrs Pedro and Guiness slept in it last night and pronounced it " Luxury",,
[actually Guiness just barked:angel:]

People are funny,, the previous owner spent a zillion putting a good 12v solar system through the van, and then ties off one side of the handbrake cable,,, with the other side in a non-adjusted state I picked up one loose van:D

Must be your filter Vlad as I can see the picture that you can't.

I had a controller called an AGILITY,, which I think was a tekonsha anyway,, but I always thought was not quite up to the job of 4 wheel brakes,,

and was happy to go with the recommendations I received,,

and answers the question WHERE DO YOU PUT YOUR BRAKE CONTROLLER?

right here--
50 cms from your fingertips:cool:

Good choice of break controller Pedro. The P3 is about the best on the market and i am very happy with mine. Mine is mounted directly below yours on the swing down cover.

Good place to mount the ccontroller Pedro, can see it all the time, can reach it in an emergency without taking your eyes off the road and won't smash your leg on it in a crash.

Terry

Thanks for the pic Pedro.

Nice to see that a P3 fits neatly there. When I upgrade to a P3 that's where I'll put it!

Cheers

Unfortunately you can't fit one in the same position on a D3/4 as there is a vent there. Mine is fitted just to the left of the instrument area. Easy to reach, again easy to see and easy to get to in an emergency.

Terry

It's really quite simple Pete, look at your picture and imagine it on the other side of the instrument cluster. ...:p

so the second solar panel is on,,
and number three battery is in,,

and nothing.
no bells
no whistles
no fireworks
NO flashing lights.

talk about a zero result for a lot of $$ and effort.;)

Go out and fill your water tanks, stock the fridge with beer (and some food) then go to a free camp somewhere and relax for a week or so.....then your investment will start ringing, flashing and blinging.

yea, robbo,, just done that,,;)
what I have stopped doing,,
in all of 4 days,,
is plugging the anderson plug in from the car to the van.
I figure the van can now stand on its own 4 feet.:ohyes:

Just come back from 4 days at Meandarra, which included the Anzac Service, free tour of the Meandarra Anzac Memorial, tour of Montys Car Museum and tasting the local XXXX,,
Car and van performed faultlessly. Not one thing failed, broke down or didnt work as written on the tin.
We had just bought a new 12V telly (as the previous one had started eating DVD's) only to find Meandarra has no DVB reception:lol2:, luckily I had planned ahead and had a USB drive with ten movies.
