Hi all
So I am thinking of a new project / mental stimulation / past time and am thinking about Radio Control Model Boat - speed boat type, probably electric (less hassle / noise and cleaner I think)
the main thing that I am looking for is wood, the local hobby store stocks a little balsa but they are mainly in to R/C cars.
Are the any good suppliers that do mail order and have a website? I am thinking of other types than balsa, hard words for final planking and ply wood for frames
also, can any others recomend good hobby stores for parts etc
I had a 1 meter yacht years ago and was was fun but the rig size made it cumbersome.
Any others in to this out there?
thanks

google Tower Hobbies,
i do like to support my local Hobby Shop but with the dollar how it is you will be saving big bucks, just keep your orders below $1000 so you dont get slugged import duty.
some of my RC stuff here, all aircraft, no boats, Same but different.

Col Taylor and Model Flight are Australian retailers with a good range.

Are you sure you want to make a wooden boat?
If it's speed, why not fibreglass?
I used to race RC multiboats many years ago - something like this around an M-shaped course where boats have to be able to turn left and right.

It sounds as if you plan to construct the hull from scratch from wood as a form of mental stimulation. In that case. it might be worth using the same technique I use for kayak construction, ie a strip built hull with a fibreglass skin inside and out.

Thanks for the feed back
I have found some plans for Baby Bootlegger which are just uder 36" long, plank construction. that looks like the thing I am after.
it was sourcing teh wood that I am after, after a little more research I could probably get it locally, its finding the place to get it from that is sufficent qualiity, thickness and reasonable cost

Have a had a little delay for the next two months or so, but then I shall be in touch then and take it from there.
I too have seen a file that I can down load to get the shapes for the BabyBootlege laser cut but am thining that I might go old skool on it and cut them by hand
thanks
