When I load a disc into my PS2 console, the response that appears on the screen says 'No Data Available'. Any clues ??

Normally means the laser is on the way out. Which version of the PS2 do you have? Big chunky old one, or less old slimline?

And is it, ahem, in the same condition it left the Sony factory?
