Hi all,

I have a Series 3 109 station wagon with historic license plates (NSW), and would like to make a nice (camping) trip around new year. Problem is that I can only drive the car to club events, and there don't seem to be any events around Jan 1. Does anyone know of a club (anywhere in NSW, QLD, VIC) having some event around new year where we can drive to? :-)

SLOW isn't registered with RTA right?

Thanks!

We at currently awaiting our incorporation at this stage. There is a possibility it may be through by then. If this is the case, and you are a member of SLOw, you would be able to create such a trip, and you would probably find you would have some friendly company.

This is currently the only thing holding SLOw back at this stage. As long as in NSW you are able to attend any incorporated club's trips, seeing you are already on historic plates, it would be covered. If SLOw is required to register with the NSW RTA, we would not be in a position to offer this for you yet.

Hoping we can work something out for you.

Only if invited by the 'host club'.

Thanks Gary.

I still have some investigation to do into the NSW regs with regard to historic rego. Is it a condition of renewal to reprove club membership in an incorporated club, and one registered with the RTA for NSW applicants?

Hey guys,

I looked a bit into it and a club needs to be registered with the RTA.

The requirements of registering a club with the RTA:
- the club needs to be "official" (registered with fair trade australia)
- the club should have at least 5 members from nsw
- within 12 months the club should hand out 5 historic license plates
- members who want a historic license plate should be "financial members" of the club

I have got all the details from the RTA (was investigating if I could start my own club), let me know if you want me to forward them to you (email). Would be great to have a "flexible" club, where one can propose a club trip only a couple days / hours ahead. Now I have to wait for months every time to drive our landy :-s.

Cheers,

Michael

Attached the documents I got from RTA on how to register a club with them.
You also need to include some things in the club constitution (see SAMPLE CONSITUTION.doc).

RTA & Queensland Transport do issue permits to drive an unregistered vehicle from point A to point B.

Back in 1990 I got a permit to move an borrowed unregistered 3 ton truck [Loaded with our furniture as we were moving] from Sydney to the Queensland border, and did drive it up. The owner of the truck wanted to register it in Queensland where he lived

Okay this is an extra cost on a trip, but could you drive your Series 3 on one of these permits to a holiday destination, and do a return trip on another permit-- The permit to move an unregistered vehicle that I had only lasted 3 days when I did it.

No. The vehicle is registered.

My understanding of an "approved event" at least in Queensland from being involved with a number of clubs over the years is this:-

A request has to be made of the club committee to declare another club's event an "approved event" for travel on Restricted Registration.

The club's minutes shall show the request and the response, approved or not.

The approval should be noted in the club's newsletter.

To cover your bum when attending the approved event in your SI reg. vehicle, make sure you have a copy of the minutes and the newsletter with you. Don't stray too far from the most direct route. Remember, the world is full of half-smart coppers and pedantic transport inspectors.

Always remember this as well. If your SI reg. vehicle is not being used in accordance with the rules, it is considered unregistered and has no CTP cover. You may receive two fines, no reg and no CTP and the appropriate points, and may have to move your vehicle from the offending location by towing.

Quite right Brian. But in this day and age, with the correct procedures in place, this can be done in real time via electronic media.

OK Flexcie, this is where we are at.

We are unable at this time to be offer you something under the SLOw banner. SLOw would need at least 5 residents in NSW wishing to be members and take on historic rego for us to register with the RTA and provide trips for you. While this is in the scope of future endeavors, it will not suit your current time frame.

We could do a run and invite your current club, but I fear from your initial post, this may take some time to happen, and again fall outside your timeframe.

I will PM you a contact to a new NSW group who may be able to help you.

Cheers

As far as I understand it, outside the ACT/NSW, there are no cross border arrangements for Historic Conditional Registration (HCRS) in NSW. The club needs to be a NSW registered club.

Only a car club that is recognised by the RTA for HCRS can invite and host members from another HCRS recognised club to allow them to use their HCR vehicle.

Outside that, a member's Club can make an event held by another organisation a Club Event and there allow the member to use the HCRS vehicle.

A NSW registered HCRS vehicle can operate outside NSW (except WA) for up to 3 months, provided that the usage is a Club event of the primary or secondary club.

The responsibility to make some trip flecxie wants to attend a "Club event" rests with his own club/s (Primary or documented secondary). Some Clubs are willing to have broad understanding of what constitutes a Club event, others have a very narrow understanding. Roads & Maritime Services NSW (former RTA) leave those decisions in the hands of the individual clubs. The document listed above is only a sample of a constitution that could be adopted.

In relation to CCs comment, the group I believe is being referred to is not currently recognised by the RMS for HCRS, but once it is I am sure that it will operate on a philosophy of responding in a very timely manner to member's requests and invitations to attend events. The HCRS application is currently before NSW RMS.
