View Full Version : Castrol Syntrax 75W-90. It's not red out of the bottle?

Been using the above in my Defender since 2003 and it has always been red in colour. Changing oils this afternoon to find when opening all three bottles of syntrax that it is a regular oil colour.
The colour change isn't an issue, I just need to know if castrol has put the wrong oil in the said bottle. I don't want to put this in if it's the wrong stuff.
Anyone else come across this?
Just missed Castrol technical advice, it was just after 5pm when I realised the difference.
Cheers, Tod.

Apparently castrol have changed a bit of there range around. I got transmission fluid the other day to find that it is the last in stock and have to get a different one next time.

Hi Rimmer,
Is this for the gearbox? Is it a R380?
I think the oil for that is Syntrans 75w-85 What I have here in the bottle is oil colour not ATF bright red.

Or are you talking Diff/Transfer oil? In which case disregard the above.

Hi Rimmer,
I just had a look at the MSDS online, is states the colour is Amber.

Castrol Australia - Products & Services (http://www.castrol.com/castrol/genericsection.do?categoryId=8000001&contentId=6008468)

Pick MSDS from the menu on the left.

Thanks for your help Tony, seems Castrol stopped putting the dye in 12 to 18 months ago.
All good!
