Hey fellas,

I'm having an issue with my 200tdi 110 that I'd like to sort out. I'm finding that when the motor is cold (i.e when I start it) it just doesn't sound right. It's sending vibrations through the car which aren't violent as such but certainly shakier than when the engine is up to temp.

I've also found that I'm using a bit of oil with no obvious leaks. About 1l/700km it would seem. Also noticing a little white/grey smoke when idling and a puff of black smoke on startup.

I've ordered some new injector nozzles and I thought i'd try to rebuild the injectors but what else could the problem be. So far I've set the rockers and checked all the filters.

What else could it be?

I've just been reading around on the net and found someone with similar problems on lr4x4:

200tdi compression (http://www.orrp.info/smf/index.php'topic=20143.0)

I think a compression test is my text stage - I'm definitely having a hard time holding 100kmh on the motorway but I always thought that was just the 200tdi. Am I wrong? What could be the problem here?

Hi Alex

Being a 200 TDi, I would say that when its missing when cold, the injectors are showing their age.

Not sure who it was that wrote it, but there is a thread somewhere with an good explanation on how to go about doing the compression test on a diesel.

All said, It maybe time to do a top overhaul, lap in the valves, clean up the carbon, yes new injector nozzles wouldn't hurt and all new seals and gaskets.

Take a part time mechanic a day, motor will run, perform much better and you will feel good after doing a low cost tune up.

Some of the others should be able to add to that list of to do's.
