Green Gully Track

If you like walking and rugged country, do yourselves a favour and check this walk out. There are various links via NSW Nat Pk's site or Google.

Its in the Oxley Wild Rivers Nat Pk (east of Walcha NSW) and mainly follows park management trails (read old 4wd tracks) so it isn't particularly difficult but traverses some steep climbs and descents, combined with a day of wet feet, walking Green Gully Ck.

65 k's over 4 days (around 6 to 7 hours per day) and staying in restored cattlemans huts, complete with stretchers and 2 burner gas stove, outside wood bbq's and inside fireplaces, with fire wood supplied. No need to carry a tent, stove nor cooking and eating gear, as it is all supplied. There is even a shower for the second night at Green Gully Hut.

Lots of birds and animals, including rock wallabies and fabulous scenery and plant life, it's a really enjoyable walk. It costs, but quite reasonable.

If I can get the photographer to help, I'll try and include some photos at some time. ;)

Nice country up that way - I've done a bit around the Carrai Plateau, east of where you were.

I could follow the first two days of the Green Gully walk but couldn't figure where Colwells Hut was - do you have a GPS fix for it?

I intend to poke around the Oxley Wild Rivers area a bit during 2012.

Keep working on those photos, I'm keen to see them.

If you have the topo, follow Green Gully Ck upstream to another hut, which is Colwells. There is a 4wd track which then goes up and meets the track from Cedar Ck.

Have you been into Youdales? It's all great country to explore, mostly by foot, which is unfortunate for some. Those areas which are vehicle accessable have nice campsites also.

Thanks for that Perry - I followed the creek U/S for 13.5kms and located the 4WD track but no hut marked - probably due to my 1974 edition 1:25,000 topos. :o
Did you stay in the creek the whole of Day 3? If so it must have been quite a walk.

I haven't been into Youdales Hut yet but have sent a few others in there and from their reports it's quite nice. Drove out to Mary's View on one of my sorties to the area - quite spectacular.

That's the place. On my edition, the hut (shed) is marked.

It's not a bad walk up the ck, although you dont actually walk in it, but cross it many times on the way upstream.

Next is to look at walking from Yarowitch hut through to Green Gully Hut and probably return. Or down the Apsley R from Budd's Mare to junction of Green Gully Ck or.........so much to see and do.

We're going into Halls Peak for Xmas on the Chandler, provided the nasty gunman is either caught or confirmed to have left the area. :o We'll see.
