Hi,

The other day I picked up my first ever landy a 1958 series 2 with the series one 2 litre motor, it had been sitting under a tree in a paddock for four years and was desperately needing to be saved, the information I had from the owner was, " its green" a good start. So when I went to pick it up I discovered it was actually in very good shape, especially being one of the early ones. So I have some pics of before and after I washed it, haven't tried to start it yet due to its raining and will take a little work, anyway here they are. enjoy.

How she looked before cleaning.

There were many more cobwebs inside but this was more or less the state, by the way, there are seats, I just took them out prior to using the Gerni.

Top find Ned!

I should think S2's with the 2L engine must be quite rare :D

That looks like a nice truck Ned and a very early one as well. It may be the oldest in Australia

What is the Chassis Number ?

Not many 2 litres left now as well. What is the engine number ? It is found on the block at the front of the Exhaust manifold.

Cheers Richard

Not ready to put the numbers up in public yet as I'm sure you would understand,
but just out of interest what is the earliest chassis number known for a series 2 in Australia? I can tell you mine is one of the first 750, also, some good news,
me and my father have discovered that the engine is not ceased (the previous owner had said it was) so we put in a good battery, blew out the fuel lines, cleaned the carby, emptied the petrol tank (full of rotten fuel) and cranked it up and she fired right up, sounded great, no knocks or anything, not ready to drive yet though.

Hey Ned, your truck looks great!

Just curious, why would you be hesitant to put up chassis numbers? What's anyone going to do with them?
Maybe I'm just naive...

Just if anyone is restoring an old landy and has no numbers, so I would rather keep the numbers private until she gets registered.

Ned,

Nice find.
I had a 2 litre S2 until about a year ago but I sold it because it needed too much work.

I don't think you will have any problems with listing the chassis/engine numbers. Someone would have to go to the trouble of making up a replica chassis plate for the bulkhead and re-stamping the chassis and what would they actually gain by doing this ?

Check out this thread for some of the known 2 litre Series 2's http://www.aulro.com/afvb/series-2-2a/75741-show-us-your-58-2l-series-ii.html

Yours seems to have a Holden carby & air filter which is a common modification, my Series 1 has exactly the same setup. Facet type fuel pump in place of the original makes me think it's been 'kept running' using available parts.

Looks like a great starting point and quite a rare model......

How would this even do anyone any good? Assuming you posted the numbers, someone went and used them (illegally mind you, risking huge fines) as soon as you go to register yours, they say the numbers are in use, you show them previous registration documentation to prove yours is the "real" one and bingo. It wouldn't take much to verify the integrity of yours - bit of a difference between someone using a set of supercheap punches to punch a replica vin into their chassis and your original one.

I can't seriously believe this sort of thing happens - why would you have one with no numbers anyway?

It would classify the same as rebirthing and would be very much frowned upon by mr plod!

The numbers have been posted by Bulletproof here: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/series-2-2a/140557-1958-2-litre-88-register-aunz-existant-vehicles.html
