Hi Guys
We are having difficulty removing the gearbox from the engine (Automatic)
We loosened all the bolts that we could find, it still does not want to separate from the engine.
The engine still does not want to separate from the gearbox.
Is there anything that we might have missed,
Any urgent advice would be appreciated
Thanks
Newton

Am I right to assume that you have taken the bolts out of the torque converter?
And great surname!

you dont need to pull the TC bolts out to move the box back the TC will fall out of the box, you just cant put it back in that way...
did you take the bottom cover off that will foul on the flex plate and the starter bolts also hold the bell housing on.
photos?

Hi there Guys,
Yep you are right, it is the 3 bolts that holds the flex plate to the converter that is holding us back . Thanks Brute and the WA-AULROians contact list.
Sorry no pics Dave ;).
We can see them when we removed the small inspection plate at the bottom of the bell-housing. On the Rave CD it points to them through the starter motor opening and also through 3 holes in the flywheel. Our big problem came when we figured that the 3 bolts do not line-up to the 3 holes in the flywheel. When we shine a torch through the hole in the flywheel the bolt does not appear in the circle of light, it is about an inch off. I tried with a 13mm ring spanner through the inspection hole but could not get enough force on it to loosen, not even with another ring spanner in the open end of the 13mm for more torque. Maybe we should get a gynogolagist to give it a go :wasntme:.
So the big question is how do we get those 3 bolts undone???
Cheers, Jurgens.

Jurgens Hi , I'm doing the exact same job as we speak. The way to removing the TC bolts is through the flywheel holes. 24mm socket on the harmonic balancer bolt and turn till you find the first hole in the flywheel.
Put a 13 mm. socket through the starter motor hole ... through the flywheel and it WILL go on the 13 mm bolts. Do not worry about dropping them inside as you will be pulling the engine anyway.
MAKE REALLY SURE NOT TO DISTURB THE TC. FORM IT'S POSITION.Or you will be adding lots of grief to your job.
At the moment I am putting in a new TD5 but am having trouble getting the top of the motor and bell housing to marry together. almost feels like something is wedged in there But I can not see any problems.
I hope this helps you in some small way.
Cheers, Nick
Forget it . I have just seen the date of the OP Duh!!!!
