There appears to be an ever increasing number of AULRO members heading out into the forests mountain bike mounted so if you are looking for riding partners or trail info around South East Queensland, post it here. Likewise, if you've done a ride and/or have some pictures or just want gloat about how quick you are or how hard someone crashed, this is the place ;).

I'll set the ball rolling with our ride up Camp Mountain yesterday.
Just as we were about to head out another heavy shower came over so we sat it out, resisting the urge to open the beer fridge. Once it past we made the slog to the top the long way, up the Bitch Hill and The Tank trail and were greeted with some awesome views from above the clouds. Descending through the clouds with about 40 metre visibility was just as good. All up, only 11.3km but a total of 492m of climbing with a maximum climb gradient of 22%.

The deed is done ... santa has a MTB jammed in his sleigh for me :)
So, here we have an opportunity to ride with a roadie who has only ever ridden MTB once but will shortly have a bike that is far, far more capable than he is likely to be for the foreseeable future.
So, if anyone is doing a ride that is suitable for a MTB noobie let me know!

Gents... some bad news. While I have the bike now my dear Mum passed away. Apart from being very sad we've got to start sorting through Dad's shed which is going to be a big job and take up a lot of my time for the next few weeks. I'm also off to Fraser from the 15th for a week so am out for two weekends there. :(
I have been to Bunya to christen the bike a couple of times and I've had some good fun. I'm afraid I'm going to have to go to standby for a bit and just take what opportunities I can. :(
Thanks for the offer though! :D Soon I'll be there.

Do it when you get home, which should be no later than 9.30am.....that's one reason to ride early rather than mid afternoon!

Firstly thanks to Dan for the organisation of a great morning out riding single track.
Secondly thank you to everyone present, always good to meet new people and such friendly ones at that. I got tips through out the day and everyone was very forgiving and understanding of my poor riding :D.
Now onto the day as I recall it... TOUGH! I really struggled on the main hill climb and trails on the ride to the top. I struggled in the switchbacks on the way down. I pretty much felt as if I was struggling 80% of the time, but I FREAKING LOVED IT!
The skill of the riders was IMHO very high, Notably Rainman and Bump who were always happy to hit things a number of times, which as a spectator I really enjoyed.
I think I had a number of close calls, but managed to stay on my bike (which is my one and only aim).
Due to my orsum riding skillz I was the victim of two pinch flats. I have to thank Dan yet again for both supplying me with my first tube and then teaching me how simple it was to change a tube.
The second tube was supplied by Truck who was also very helpful and gave further tube changing advise. I owe you guys as without them tubes it was going to be a long push back to the car.
I learnt so much in such a short time. I now know I need to carry some tubes and will be changing my tires (to some maxxis variant) in the very near future.
I also need to finalise my order with CRC for the Camelbak and find some comfy gloves.
The highlight of my day was the home brew supplied by James once I finally made it back to the car park. It was like a well earned reward for me :D
I am still sore today, I look forward to an increased fitness and hopefully less of a struggle each time.
So lastly, thanks again to all, I think we should attempt to make Mt Joyce a monthly ride of orsumness :D
Cheers

Man, I can't remember where to post the intention to go biking on this nuts forum! I do however, remember the last time I got out on ST......the shame.....it was on my last trip in Jan, to Mt. Joyce.....it's all very sad.....coupled with the fact that my well defended carbon Trek frame broke.....let me tell you about how I inadvertently discovered the previously undisclosed OCLV weight limit.
Anyhow - I gotta new one!!!! :BigThumb: And the Scallop wishes to shake the gut, on the Joyce, this Saturday morn.....I'll be there...will you????

 Cripes Scallops! Do you have pictures? Where did it break?
I'm afraid I'm away all week end so I can't make Mt Joyce. To be honest I've been thinking about it a bit lately and I reckon I could have been convinced to turn up Saturday otherwise. Must do it soon.

Thanks for the concern, fellas. Sorry to not have given more notice, but I didn't know when I'd get my bike back.....:)
It didn't exactly break; after having never washed it, I thought I'd do so to inspect the frame. First, I found a paint chip under the down tube (in front of the BB area) which was in fact a bit of a crater. Then, on the seat mast at the front, I found a 5mm long black mark under the clearcoat in the paint.
I showed it to the dealer - they warranted the frame and I get the new built bike this morning.
I'm not sure if the seatmast thing was just a paint defect or the start of a crack. It didn't creak or sound dull when taped with a coin, but if they want to give me a new one that's fine with me.
I have some carbon armour to apply to the new beast, so stone chips should be eliminated. The new frame also has some heavy duty carbon reinforcement in around the seatmast so maybe Trek recognised this issue.

Ah well - at least you got to test the warranty out, and got a good result .

I wish I had of seen this last week. I was almost there with you on Sat morning.
I have a ride that I do to the other side of Mt Joyce (Wild Pig Creek Rd). I'm yet to find a way over the top of the mountain. The locals tell me it can be done but involves a bit of private property.
Here's my track from Saturday's ride.
