Steering relay filled with grease

The steering relay has a nipple screwed into the side and appears to have been filled with grease. I have always used oil and wonder if grease is OK. If not, what is the best way to flush out the grease in prep for oil???? Any ideas???

I think oil would better because the top bushes would get lubricated and also the oil could get between the bushes and the shaft easier than grease.

Top it up with EP90 and it should spread through the grease eventually,

Many grease guns can be filled with heavy oil, and can be used to flush the grease out.

Oil is preferred as it will lubricate the bushes properly, which grease won't. If it has been run on grease, two situations are likely :-

1. Grease was used because the bottom seal is leaking.
2. It is likely the bushes and possibly the shaft are worn out.

My Series 1 doesn't have the wear or mileage that my SIIa has and that relay was OK, so I am hoping that who ever put the grease nipple on the side didn't have the patience to persist with oil.
I think that i'll try the 90 oil with a grease gun and attempt to flush the unit out. I'll replace the seal at the bottom at the same time, and this should help move the oil thru.
