Paul,
Nice find there. In my opinion:

It's either a late series 2A or early series 3, 1971 to 1981 perhaps.
The condition of the chassis and firewall should tell you if it's a restorer or parter. Price is also a major factor.
The scrap value would be around $300. If there is little or no rust in the chassis or firewall, it's value may increase to $400 as a restorer or parter.
A working motor and transmission makes it worth a little more.
The poorer condition car, the more expensive it will cost to restore. It's cheaper to get a restored car and give it a polish.
You may wish to look about for one in better condition for not much more.
But then again, with me, it's all about the journey.

enjoy

Well spotted with the windscreen hinges, 1970-71 then

There was a 1972 2A at the All British Day (Qld) a couple of years ago (2009 ?). IIRC, the owner said they made them upto April 72.

Could be as late as 72 but probably not. We had a 1972 S2A LWB 6 cylinder on the farm (it was sold and registered as such anyway) - shown in my avatar. It had the same grille, window hinges etc as the one shown in your photo.

Not sure if the S2As were still coming in grey by 1972 - I believe all the 6 cylinder models were the creamy yellow colour, and maybe the later 4 cylinder models, so being grey it was most likely a 4 cylinder when new and pre 72.

I am pretty sure it isn't a S3 - doesn't look like one, plus did the LWB S3s ever come in grey from the factory?

Cheers,

Im tipping its a 70 or 71 Series IIa, Without a lot more pics and some inpsection work Im not even going to guess at the requirements for restoration but its probably worth it.

If it starts, runs, drives, the brakes arent shot and it doesnt make any super expensive sounding noises or have gaping holes in the chassis/firewall I'd offer up $500

Series 2a not 3 (windscreen hinges etc). Headlights in guards means 1969-71. I think it looks like 16mm wheel studs, if so 1970-71. That grille suggests late in the period. All these with the proviso that the bits are original.

I do not see the diesel warning on the fuel filler, suggesting it is petrol, and the absence of a "6" badge suggests a four.

To me this would make it quite a desirable model - in a lot of ways the late Series 2a is the most attractive Landrover, as it was just before lots of plastic started appearing.

As to what it is worth....... this depends very largely on condition. In good running order and roadworthy it could be worth a few thousand, maybe $5000 max, but if you subtract from this the costs of getting it roadworthy and registered, the sum left pretty soon gets close to nothing. Think - four tyres, probably close to $300 each, a minimum of brake wheel and master cylinders, probably a few seals, new battery, registration these days getting close to $1000 (just did mine - $800 for rego and 3rd party). If it has been used unregistered (likely) some wiring/light repairs. Possibly a couple of spring bushes, maybe tierod ends, swivels. All this without doing any restoration, rust repair, repaint.

Scrap value is perhaps $500, putting a floor on the value, and fully restored it will still be worth only about $5,000 maximum, although for a 2a, this may be starting to rise.

Its got series 3 door hinges, so what else has been changed,
Also the radiator looks closer to the grill than it should be so its probably got a Holden motor.
the oil bath filter was adequate for holden, why fit a donaldson, it might be an a 8cyl ??
The truck cab looks pre 1970 because it has seatbelt holes drilled right thru.
Grey was pre late 2a.

The headlights were probably put in the guards when the radiator was moved forward
