Looking at replacing the standard S sound system CD400 , with an aftewrmarket , 2 din unit with all the fruit. GPS,reversing camera,Ipod,DVD,Digital TV etc etc .Now what would be a good head unit to get to do this with and be pretty simple to match up
Allready got the Blank D3 special 2 din fascia, and a Iso connector

Have a look in the Electronics and GPS sections - there are a few threads on this for D3s.

Low line system I assume?
Pretty easy pull off the H panel, unscrew the modules remove head unit replace, refit. No major issues but if you want decent sound you need new speakers and preferably an amp. You can also put a sub in the tailgate.

Hi 400...
I did this in my D3 - removed the CD400 single CD head unit and then installed a Sony 7" DVD player in a double DIN fascia from UK. I also bought the stereo interface - to run power to head unit and connect to speakers. I then installed a 4 channel digital amp under the drivers seat, connected to head unit via RCA leads. The speaker cables then ran back to the back of the head unit, connecting to the interface cables - to save running new speaker leads from amp to front speakers. I then installed a sub in the tailgate and heavily treated the tailgate with Dynamat. The 3rd/4th channel from the amp was bridged and 14 GA speaker cable ran to the sub. I never got around to installing the reversing camera.
As caver says - you really need to upgrade the speakers. There is a bit of work getting the tweeter installed, but it is worth it.
Let me know if you need more details.
Cheers,

What is wrong with the standard speakers? Mine seem to work great - even at high volume and plenty of base.

Must agree with Garrycol , the speakers sound fine ,plenty of bass ,well at least at the sound levels I like to use anyway. More interested in the GPS,the DVD Movies, the Digital TV,the Bluetooth, the I phone, the USB connections ,the reversing camera, , even hooks up to the steering wheel controls .,etc etc..
Now if we only get Graeme of LLAMS fame ,to do a nice dual LED readout gauge for the Center e/diff and and the rear E/diff actuation levels ,with a Digital readout of Boost and EGT Id be in my electronitrickery heaven !!!!
