Hello All,

I need some dating help. No, I haven't gotten divorced from buying too many Series Land Rovers(yet), I mean dating The Generals' Series 11a.

What I need is all those with late 11a Wide eyes, please check your PMC serial number and post with the known date of your vehicle.

This one is a G suffix, has no complience plate and the motor has been changed, so checking for numbers is difficult. Chassis #'s to date are useless as they are CKD, and higgeldy, piggeldy.

This ones PMC serial # is 13878. I am thinking late 69, going by what is and isn't changed.

So in 88's, ours was built exactly 1500 units before yours.

Wonder what a rough guess is of units sold per year. To be consistant with mine being Late 69, they would have had to sell around 750 88's per year.

Will be interesting to see others numbers.

I realise that this bit of useless info probably wont be of any assistance in that back in the mid 60s the military was taking large numbers of 88s and that fact alone would have inflated the earlier numbers considerably, but with that in mind, Onslow who is a 6/63 delivery dated 88' 2a Landy, has a PMC body number 6868.
Daisy, who is a sprightly year younger, unfortunately no longer has her PMC number attached.

Yes Glen,

The army's intake of shorties really slowed down towards the end of the 60's as the trend moved to the longer wheelbase vehicles. I will have to check the ARN's, but I am pretty sure there were not very many(if any) Suffix g and H shorties taken in. A few wide light workshops and such.

In fact the trend towards the longer wheelbases was a sign of the times, so in my way of thinking, Land Rover would have been selling a far reduced number of the 88's.

Would be interesting to see the number of shorties passing through the known surving books compared to the LWB's. Dianna:angel:

IIRC, 64 was the last 88 the Army purchased.
