Air bag fail after 10km

Hi all hope you all had a good Christmas ok need help already have had R/R for one day this the short story, took delivery of 1998 R/R HSE 118,000ks Xmas eve took for a drive 10ks air bags start to go down had fault EAS slow to 55ks on dash to keep going about 60k round trip on the stoppers great ride:mad: Ok start looking for prob,no power to compressor not running pull relays check all ok, hard wire comp works fine But 1st question comp seems to get very hot is this normal, fined under comp air line has push joiner leaking in main line so wont pump tank up, Now because I pulled relays and swaped them around to check them I have ABS light on dash staying on and of cause the air warrning as well, Christmas so cant buy fitting any where so read posts and deside to try and plow up air bages with comp manualy, by unplugging each air line from air control things I can pump up each bag but very hard to get air line back in push fitting befor you lose lots of your air, There is lots more but I'm going to stop now bucause this is becoming a novel

There are a couple of things you will need to do. Paul from HardRange can help with both. One is to buy a EAS bypass kit to manually blow up your air bags. I went to a local supplyer to get what I needed. It can be bought as a kit. You will also need a tool to reset your EAS. I used a EAS Kicker from Blackbox Solutions, was very happy with it. There are others. Including one from Story Wilson that I think can be down loaded altho I'm not familular with but others have used and are happy with.

Bit of a bummer with a lot of places shut down for Christmas / New year. I had a few problems with my P38 & many a day had to drive arounds on the bump stops.

Thanks Gary will go with your sugestions the compresor heat worrys me do they get hot I mean hot so you cant touch them and the air intake on them seems to be over filtered heavy felt inside I thought this would be very restrictive and would make the compressor work hard.
Ps No will not put me off R/R just an other challange and the car is for my wife and she loves it.

Yes, HardRange is a good suggestion. I've got a "Kicker" and its worth every cent.

In the mean time, here's what I've done to mine ('95 Classic) - You can buy the air-taps from plumbing or 'AIR' suppliers. Around $10 each, I think.

I happened to have some air-taps lying around, so I put them between the T piece and the EAS Control/Compressor box. This allows me to easily isolate each bag without having to pull connections apart. This approach is overkill if you have to buy (with money) the in-line valves.

Or you can simply have the T piece, and switch it around if you suspect your control valves are leaking...

In my opinion, the EAS is 'under-built', but works fine IF everything else is 101% leak-free.
-- Don't be afraid to use lots of detergent/water to find the slow leaks that will drastically shrtn the compressor's life and unload your wallet!


Get hold of the RAVE manual and slavishly follow the fault-finding proceedures. That way you won't pull the wrong relay and get all sorts of flashing lights! :p

'95 Classice with working EAS and Cruise Control.

My manual air recovery system came from the Airbag man in Qld for about $200 and is worth every cent. It has 4 taps, one on each line so you can isolate the valve block totally and just pump the four of them up with an aftermarket pump. Around 70 lb pressure will get you up to a nice height and you will never have to drive on the bump stops again. An eas buddy box to clear faults and you are nearly there.
This stuff gives you the confidence to go anywhere and get home again without a flat tray or car trailor.
Paul at Hardrange can fix you up with the buddy box etc.

EAS compressor does run very hot, well mine does anyway...
