Finally putting my spare gearbox back together and need some reminders.

Neither manual mentions the large washer. I think it should be - large washer, o- ring, large spacer, small spacer, circlip. The last three were easy, there were instructions.

What concerns me is that the o-ring doesn't seem to sit well inside the large washer.

Also the large washer has significant wear on both sides from rubbing up against fifth gear and the large spacer.

Help please.

My manual shows the big washer, it holds the sliding plates in the selector hub in the right place. The O ring fittes in the shamfer of the seal collar then the shim and finally the circlip. I have had the circlip break it is very important that you replace the large washer fit the correct shim or grind down a thicker one to suit, and put the circlip the correct way around and only ever use it once. Use the old one to get the clearance right then fit the new one. The wear on the washer is not from rubbing it cannot turn if the pin is still in the selector hub. It bangs away at it every time you lift you foot in 5th.
