Hi All,
I was sanding back (in preparation for cleaning/painting) my front diff. (Restoring my 1961 - Series 2 - Petrol)
I discovered the Serial Number on the front of the diff.
If you look closely it appears that some of the numbers have been over written - at a guess I would say that it was a mistake corrected at the factory?
What do you think? Is this normal or common? Unusual?

Regards,
The Grey Ghost!

i have one that has been overstamped like that which came off a lightweight chassis, i've no idea if it was a common occurance though

Very unusual, but given that an 1961 88" SI1 number has been overstamped with a 1961 109" SII makes the odds more likely that it is a factory correction.

I have a pair of 569204 rims that have been overstamped from 569203 centres, in fact one rim is overstamped then stamped a second time with the 569204.

Looking at the font used I would say the underneath original Number was done at Solihul because other ones I have are in the same font.

The Overstamp is in a completely different font with thin and thick and was probably done at the assembly plant in Australia

Thats my 2 cents worth
