View Full Version : D4 Air Filter water Drain?

I was cleaning out the air filter this afternoon. I noticed a bit of dust in the small box at the front of the air filter box. There is also a drain plug/hole there. I cleaned out as much of the collected bugs and dust as I could reach. Then I was wondering if the drain was working ok. So i thought I'd pour some water into the bottom of the filter box to test it. The water didn't go anywhere... just sat there. I ended up using a towel to dry out the filter box.

I have a safari snorkel fitted so now I'm concerned that if water does get down it the air filter box it will build up. I read a post somewhere on this forum that someone had this happen to them.

Does anyone know anything about the drain hole? Does it clog up easily? Should the water drain out easily? Do I need to make a modification?

This is on a MY10 D4 3.0TD6 Diesel.

Air box should have a one way valve in it. But it may have been filled to make it water tight when snorkel was fitted.

I have been tinking about the same thing with all the rain we have been having lately and the recent snorkel install. I have been a bit lazy though and not got around to opening up the airbox to see if I have collected water.

I have heard also that the one way valve may get sealed with snorkel install.

When I fitted a snorkel to my D2, contrary to seemingly common practice I left the duckbill drain unsealed so that water could drain.

Did the same with mine. I figure it will keep the water out as long as the engine is running.

PS anyone else getting anoying pop ups? "Tech News"

Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't considered that the snorkel installer may have blocked the drain. I would rather have left that part original. Given the amount of bugs that make their way down there i suspect they would block the drain anyway.

I will have another look and unblock the drain.
