I've read so many Ford performance & modification & audio web pages I've got a headache & my wife doesn't believe me that I'm reading 'car stuff' anymore..

My Discovery 4 SE 2011 with low spec audio. How much did Land Rover pinch from Ford & what model/s was it from. I'm talking about the CD player, button facia & monochrome screen.

I know it's Ford & the screen has been sighted in the low spec Fiesta / Focus & I think the poverty pack Territory. From what I've read it's not FordSync so I'm guessing somewhere between 2005 &
2009..

Whatever the black boxes are under the front seats are also Ford. Is it normal to cross breed?

Any assistance will help my cause

Cheers Rob

Not sure of the exact years, but Ford owned Landrover for a period of time, so I can see a few things crossing over.

IIRC, even the new (MY2012) Ford Ranger has an optional 5 cyl diesel that I believe is a TD5 evolution.

Wasn't the deal done with Tata in 2007/early 2008 just before the GFC? So that would make Ford ownership in 2005 correct.

Have a read of this, may give you some dates of who was purchased & when & who was sleeping with who:p

There has been remarkable changes throughout the different owners & I have seen them all.:p
Some better than others. Land Rover (Especially the D3/4 / FL2 / Spt) have many components shared from the PAG days. If you look closely you will see Ford, Jag, Volvo printed on components.

I feel like Hahn Solo saying this but my objective is to find our what language the can-bus system speaks.

...If only it were as easy as finding out what's wrong with the hyper drive on the Millennium Falcon.

my objective is to find our what language the can-bus system speaks. The 2010+ high speed canbus is different to the 2009 & earlier and then there's the medium speed canbus, the MOST bus and another that I cannot recall atm, so there's lots of learning to be done if you desire. Me? I don't have the desire so would put the onus on an equipment supplier.

Well to be more specific it's the audio system I'm interested in.

I only have info on the D3 where the integrated head unit and lowline audio unit are connected to the medium speed canbus and the display for the IHU is connected via the MOST bus, along with the amplifier. You'll need D4 base audio specific info though even though its very likely to also be connected to the MS canbus.

My vehicle was expected to show the CD/MP3 track info in the instrument display, with this extra capability being provided after the 1st builds but before mine was built, but it does not. I could use this info as I have a cheap 7" nav/Ozi/rev camera screen mounted in front of the original screen which is therefore mostly obscured.

I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that the D4 base stereo is the same as in a late model Ford Fiesta.

I just did a search, and the 2009-on stereo looks pretty close. Top screen, central disc and push buttons below.

Yes that's very close, I think the D4 has a few more lines in the screen. That Fiesta is begging for a double din isn't it!!

Yeah - the Festiva one doesn't have bluetooth, so slightly different.
