Recently a mates TD5 disco was put to rest as a result of the dreaded oil pump bolt, as a result of this I was prompted to check mine. What I thought was going to be a long and painful day turned out to be a very productive day for both the Disco and our kids. Armed with some guidance from the net and the parts we needed we set off to check the offending bolt on our 2003 TD5 Disco. I wasnt looking forward to addressing this issue in our drive however with my DA's (dads assistance in tow, two boys 8 and 6) thought it would be a good way to kill some time during the school holidays and get the kids out of the house. Both boys got hands on, filthy and had a ball, we found that the bolt was only hand tight so addressed that with some loctite 263 and were working so well together that we not only managed to fix the bolt, but changed the engine and all the drive train oils and filters and completed the job in around 6 hours.
Boys learnt a little, had some fun and are now keen to have a crack at mums Jeep, mums not to sure about that yet. If you get the chance involve your kids you'll have a ball.

Well done chook, I checked my 2003 TD5 in April 2011 and the bolt was very tight so some are good, some are not.

I wish I could get my 6yr old interested in mechanical things. My father was a Diesel Mechanic and I used to look forward to any work on a car.

Very lucky!
I cannot get a 15 or 11 yo to even cart their own washing without an argument!
Getting the 15 yo to mow is worse than pulling teeth!
Lazy buggers!

At one stage when my big son was about 16 I was paying him $20 to mow the back lawn. After a few mows and probably $60 he decided it wasn't worth the money.

I sound old but the young people these days have it too easy...."when I was a boy....."
