Does the TD6 have a kickdown cable or is it all electronic? Jim

Hi Jim,
I'm pretty sure that this is all handled by the EAT electronic wizardry these days.
A brief scan of the operating description doesn't suggest one way or the other and the only physical (cable) connection I can see is for the shift interlock between the selector and the actual gearbox.
Hope this helps some.
Cheers,
Iain

All electronic. So is the accelerator.
What's up? Kicking down when you don't want it too?

I kick this thread off again. My problem is that when cruising along and come to a slight rise, any pedal pressure, even the slightest sees the gearbox kick back. It won't pull in top gear at all. However, the problem is resolved if I turn the aircon on. When I do that it drives normally and will pull off from 60k/h in top easily without kicking down. In fact to get it to kick down I have to have pedal almost on floor. How would loading the motor with compressor affect gearbox changing? In fact I think that loading motor should make it kick down earlier. Any suggestions other than leaving aircon on? Jim

I would imagine that turning the AC on sends a signal to the gearbox ECM, and probably changes the shift map kind of like when it is in sports mode - that is just a different shift map in the ECM.
Why it kicks back so easily from its standard map is another question.
I will have to check what the AC does to mine, as I find that with the crusie control on at 60KPH, mine will continually kick back, then drop down again - it can't hold the car at 60 in top gear, but 1 gear down is too low - it is a PITA. At 50, it stays in fourth, and at 80 it will stay in top.
I'm still paranoid about anything my box does that I think it shouldn't be - it makes my wallet start to ache again...:p

Thanks all for your thoughts on this problem. It seems I have found the problem, a perished and split vacuum hose. I cut it back and reattached. Now it seems to drive well without aircon being on. Only time will tell. Jim
