Yay
I think I have tinnitus.
Could hardly hear from my left ear yesterday due to the static / feedback noise in my left ear. Also finding that certain pitch sounds are causing a high pitch whistle. Naturally my family keep making the perfect pitch to cause it.

Like high pitched bees? Yep. Comes and goes, louder an softer. You get used to it after a while :)

worst time with it is when trying to sleep, mine comes and goes when it happens at night I make sure the fan is on or a radio softly in the background just to help distract my mind from it.

Should get it checked mate, I'm about to go see the doc about the same thing get the ringing in the ears, and my little boy seems to hit the pitch regularly that makes my inner ear vibrate like crazy.
I'm guessing years of Playing with race cars and sitting next to dynos has taken it's toll.

Mine started after a nail gun hose let go next to my right ear. Now driving with the window down, the vacum and other machines start if off.

Yesterday was like sonstant wind or running water. Could not hear from my left ear. Today it is a lot milder but the kids noises and the better halfs telling the kids to settle is like a whistle / rattle and makes it hard to hear what is said.
Will be getting an appointmet with the doc to see what is going in.

I blame AC/DC for mine. Rod Laver arena as it was back in 1988. The sonic cannon that they let off literally shook the whole stadium, it is still the loudest thing I can remember ever hearing at a concert.

It comes years after significant exposure to loud noise, often industrial noise, is also affecting older "rock-N-roll" musicans and us long-term Land Rover drivers.
Unfortunately in many cases treatments are inneffective, although some people get relief from accupuncture.
It is a case where prevention is better than cure!
George130 you should still take roverfans advice and get it checked by your local doc.

Tends to be worse if I'm tired or stressed. Or tired and stressed.

Welcome to the aging process. By all means see a doctor. They will be happy to take money from you and medicare, wasting your time making referrals and doing all sorts of tests (as per the usual medical money go round) just to tell you that there is nothing that can be done about it.

I used to have it, but now @ 65 years of age the industrial deafness aliviated the problem, I cannot hearing it!
In the Defender it is even better, I cannot hearing a thing. I think that the Defender is the best thing for treating tinnitus :D

Great, thanks Diana :p
I've just ignored it for the last couple of years, putting it down to too many years playing with loud things that go fast and their associated bits and pieces.
Now at least I can blame my aberrant behaviour on a potential tumour :D

Perforated ear drum with both ears inflamed from infection. As I said a treatable ear infection, always good to get things like these checked out, particularly ones with rapid onset changes. It may be a hassel getting to see the doc, but better in the long run.

My tinnitus is alive and well, it has been that way since I was in National service and the goose behind me fired a blank right beside my head ! The ringing is in both ears and very high pitched ( the noise that a bee makes, sounds low pitched in comparison ).
Yes, I had a MRI done and nothing was found. --- no brains at all! :D
Familiar, those words ( there is nothing that can be done about it ), with the extra advice ( come back if it gets worse and we will have another look at it )
how is "worse " defined ? and what is it they look at, is it the same idiot that stares back at me from the mirror in the morning when I shave ?

Hi,
about 4 years ago I got sick of the whistle from computer screens in my office and sloped off out side for a break to sit in the sun.
The whistle followed me out and was still there.
Dammit I now have tinnitus.
I can get relief by blowing through a small plastic tube, directing the warm air to either ear to make a noise in the opening, or by running the warm shower water over each ear for a while in the morning. The noise seems to mask the tinnitus for a while.
I very seldom get it when I spend the day out doors in the garden or out walking in the bush, but spend the day inside on the desk top computer and I will surely get a good dose.
The laptop does not seem to have the same amount of influence.
I do get very sick of it at times, other times I realise I've gone all day with out noticing it.
Strange.
cheers

Yep, pretty much my experience too.

Yeh!
Noisey Pubs and disco's (the musical type), shooting shotguns and rifles, loud motorcyles and cars, angle grinders, and other workshop machinery all contributed to mine.
Sometimes it gets that loud I wonder why others can't hear it!
The experiences of youth!
Cheers, Mick.

My tinnitus is alive and well, ...
... The ringing is in both ears and very high pitched ( the noise that a bee makes, sounds low pitched in comparison ). ...Tinnitus has been known to drive some people to stab themselves in the ear to stop the buzzing and others to comit suicide, so it is no joking matter. My experiance is to leave the TV on at night, the programs will put you to sleep, and teach yourself to ignore it.
Today it's been there all afternoon, from about the time someone who didn't have tinnitus posted a thread on the subject!  :D
... Familiar, those words ( there is nothing that can be done about it ), with the extra advice ( come back if it gets worse and we will have another look at it )
how is "worse " defined ? .... Not being able to help someone with a genuine affliction makes many clinicians feel quite frustrated.
Then on other occasions the tinnitus can be caused by clinicians (iatrogenic tinnitus), administering IV gentamycin too quickly has been reported to cause both temporary and permanent tinnitus.
Cant see the bloke in your mirror so can't answer that question! ;)

I can live with Tinnitus most of the time, it actually makes driving the Defender a pleasure because its one of the times that i'm not bothered by that 15khz whistle.
But as much as I love remote bush camping & yearn for the times there is absolutely NO Ambient noise, like in the middle of the desert, its the time I hate Tinnitus most.
I remember camping & listening to the silence, that just is not possible nowadays,
Whatever you do don't get sucked into some so called treatment or therapy
I got talked into it (pdf below) & it made mine worse

I noticed mine some months after taking Proscar (finistride) 5mg. On balance, the 'side-effect' is more bearable than the disease...
The noise varies with mood and enviroment, and yes, I reckon it has reduced my ability to properly hear conversations in noisy places.
- But the hair has stopped falling out ! :D:D:D
Barber reckons he can see re-growth, which would explain the mild itchiness....
