Trying to find out why I have fairly average (****) economy & wondered if having a snorkel could have any adverse effect on fuel consumption. Had wondered & thought if I don't ask I won't know. Thanks for any help.

My thoughts based on my own snorkel are that it is a fraction less efficent with the snorkel.

(BTW, Incisor right at the moment will probably give you a warning for the sensored swearing)

My manual 02 TD5 Disco was dead stock 18 months ago and I regularly got about 8l/100k or around 850-900k's to a tank. Since then I've added a fair bit of off-road 'bling' eg - snorkel, roof racks, front and rear bar, lights, sidesteps and just about anything else that creates drag and weight.......:o

And yes, fuel economy has suffered substantially but, its a necessary evil that I am aware of. At least the long range tank I've fitted now gives me about 1300K range ;)

Just how shotful is your fuel economy?

See no swearing there:D

Hi Gofish
I've a 2000 manual with snorkel and bullbar ... my city driving average is 11.5 ltrs/100kms.
Always thought that was pretty good.

I have a 2001 D2 TD5 with 260,000kms. Serviced every 5,000kms

11-12 around town, high 10's on long country trips but a little more now ive fitted some accessories.

These are my figures since Aug 2011. Note the change in tyre size from 265/75/16 muds to 255/65/18. This inflates the fuel useage due to the bigger rolling diameter and hence less kms travelled for the same amount of fuel, so these figures are slighly over inflated. The last couple are more accurate

90% of fuel is purchased from the same BP servo.

All figures were after the fitment of 2 inch lift, snorkel, bullbar and simple 2 bar roof racks.

I should say that i have a fairly light right foot but travel at the speed limit (most of the time) :coplight:.
