I did a road trip with the van attached over the Xmas break and being a good lad I did my best to move over and let people pass.

We were coming out of a National park and I saw a Toyota Land Cruiser behind me so I pulled over and let him go ahead. That turned out to be a mistake.

It was an uphill run and this Toyota was blowing black smoke like there was no tomorrow. I pulled out and accelerated with 3500kg of van attached and I had to back off so I didn't hit him up the behind....!

After that every hill we hit I had to back off....!

Clearly he was holding me up but did he move over to let me go? Nope...

This little trip re-enforced what a great tug the D4 is. We towed the van over dirt roads and some very steep climbs and the thing just performed so dam well. On the open road sections I was constantly needing to hold it back from going over a 100klm it just wanted to pull.

Speaks volumes doesn't it.

Some of the Landcruisers are just sloooooow. Mind you the turbo ones go well, but not nearly as well as a D4.

That makes me angry . Some people just don't get it.

That will teach you to be nice, so I would hazard a bet Mowog you won't be doing that again any time soon? ...;)

Over the christmas break when we clocked up some k's with the van (2.5 ton) on the back we found ourselves on several occassions catching up to and overtaking various 4x4's towing small campers going up hills. It was even worse when they were towing decent sized vans. Funny thing is none of the people we overtook acknowledged us in any way. ...

It sure is nice to own a tug that is be able to tow a decent size van and keep up with the flow of traffic 95% of the time and not worry about causing traffic jams behind you.

Now I have finally received the EGR blanking kit once I fit it I will be uploading the BAS ECU reprogram, can't wait to see how much difference that makes to the old girl.

cheers,
Terry

I will always move over when the van is attached.

I did have one other funny incident when we weren't towing...

Along the Waterfall Way I was doing a 100klm'ish and a late model VW Transporter came up behind me. At the next overtaking lane I moved over to let him pass. This overtaking lane had a fair uphill gradient.... I maintained my speed the VW pullout to pass and.... He simply didn't have the grunt to accelerate.

Now normally I would take pity on the fool and back off a bit and let him go. But he was fading fast in the mirror and there was a slow car ahead so... I left him behind overtook the slow car and continued on.

A bit later he found a down hill run and used gravity to make up for his lack of grunt.
