New tyres

Hi all,

I know this probably isnt what you all are into (neither am i) but my father has decided he wants a set of 22's on his Range rover sport '10

Im no technical genius so ive decided to ask what tyre sizes should i be looking at getting for him?

tempe tyres (i know...) have said to put on 285/35 but the contact patch will be huge = less power, more engine stress

will 275/40 fit well on a 22 inch wheel with 10 inch width?

No offence but he's obviously going for looks over performance so why be concerned with the size of the contact patch?

If its a diesel, it will be the most uncomfortable ride ever, when buying tyres also see if you can pick up a "Kidney" belt [happycry]
If its a petrol it will be marginally better.

285/35 is smaller in diameter than 275/40 so the engine will be "stressed" more with 275/40 fitted. But stressed? I can't see that being of any concern.

Perhaps you might want to check out the Disco3UK ( DISCO3.CO.UK - Index (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/)) site as there is plenty of discussion regarding bigger wheel and tyre combo's on there.

In terms of maximum size it is really all about the diameter of the OEM plus or minus the allowable increase (something like up to 15 or 20 mm I think).

No real limitation on how much is wheel and how much is tyre, within reason so provided the 22's and the low ratio rubber did not increase the overall diameter he can probably go for his life.

The RRS should have enough grunt to overcome the contact patch issue and as noted the ride will be so uncomfortable that he will not want to go that fast anyway.

Make sure he does not get rid of the old wheels and tyres as the bling 22's might wear out their welcome.

Check out the Tempe Tyres gallery as I am sure there are some photos of RRS with 20 - 22in rims, they look pretty stupid really (Just my opinion).

Note that LR do not condone the fitment of 22" rims, and will argue against their use in any drivetrain-based warranty claims. Similarly with your insurance.

On the 2010, the 285 tyre may also rub against the front upper control arm, depending on the rim's offset.

Other than that, there should be no issues regarding (a lack of) grunt to run 285/35R22 with a 2010 RRS.

I had a chat with my sales rep at LR and he also did mention warranty being void with the implementation of 22's

I guess i'll have to now convince him to find something else smaller

anyone have any suggestions with 20" sizing? he has to stock 19"s on atm

Hi Rivenscyr,
Have a mate with a D4 HSE with 20" rims.
He loves the way it handles the bends etc, but says that the ride suffers a bit.
I have the 19" rims and would never consider anything above 20".
