Hi Guys,
l moved to the dark side and left the land rover fold, along with a good bunch of people...( my apologies ) moved to a nissan thinking '
more reliable, suits my perceived needs, ... even tho I've not had anything other than a few injector pipe seals, the GU has been brilliant on reliability points... nice truck.
But i keep feeling the wanting dragging me back to the LR, looking, scoping, and even stoping myself listing the GU for sale !!..;)
Talk about something tugging at the heart strings!!....
anyway just saying hi.... what to do ?, what to do ?

I would agree with the old Nissans up to GQ maybe as they were built like trucks. My MK was bullet proof. Work a late model one hard and watch the failures or just plain underwhelming performance.
I am sort of with you, my next new car in a couple of years is undecided, but unlikely to be a LR. D4s are just too expensive and both the D4 and Defender Puma too unreliable because of stupid things.

Look on the Bright Side,
.... Owning the GU will, over time, save you a fortune compared to most LR's. - As you have noticed already, "nothing" seems to go wrong with them, especially the everyday, common-or-garden items such as seals, gaskets, door-handles, switches, knobs, and Electrics... :p:p
Now, with all this cash overflowing your wallet - ('cos you've also factored in your own hourly rate to NOT fix all the above) - you'll soon have enough to buy your way back INto the fold. A week-end toy to build, fix and modify, -never to worry about your daily driver Leaving U Cold And Stranded
Best of both worlds !

My MK was bullet proof. i had a deluxe turbo diesel one of these as my first 4wd, yes it was good until after 3 years a few expensive problems turned up just when the rego was due and no elastic money to go around so for sale it went.
now have the Disco update with 300TDi and while i enjoyed the Nissan:wasntme: i like the Disco much better and the Disco is easier to work on!! and parts no more expensive than the Nissan:wasntme:

My biggest trouble is there is nothing new that tickles my fancy? I like the old Defa 200, 300TDi and 3.9 Isuzi era but they are getting old? also nissans from that era
I cant afford an OKA
All new brands have, in my opinion too much electronics and it's not just the worry of it breaking it is also the fact that I dont want electronic traction control I like manual diff locks, yes self adjusting suspension may be sexy but I want it to be set up the way I want it not the car deciding how it should be. It's why I prefer a non electronic 4wd to a horse, horses have a brain of their own and sometimes they go nup not doing that sunshine, it may be a bad anology but I hope you get my drift.

Fancy that, openly admitting Treason on A Land Rover Forum, you do know the penalty for that is drawn and quartered by being hook up to 4 Land Rovers, done at the LROV 4WD show at Wandin in Feb and a public stoning with broken Land Rover drive shafts.
Now why would some risk it?;)

Interesting earlier post re the price of LR parts compared to Jap.
My mechanic had a Mazda BT50 in the other day. Parts were delivered while I was there, 2 brake drums, 2 wheel cylinders, set of brake shoes, oil, fuel and air filters...... total TRADE invoice was $1130+GST!
Add to this the fact that the dealer fitted tray was literally falling apart underneath due to some ludicrous design faults and you have one very unhappy owner I can tell you. All up cost incl labour and the repairs to the tray came to a bit over $2,300. The car has 90,000 km on it.The shocks are all shagged as well including the front struts (leaking very badly), the owner was too scared to get a price for replacements LOL.
Comment from my mechanic...."LR's are bloody cheap for parts, just don't believe those who say they aren't"

As posted. Get a old one as a toy. That`s what mine mostly is. Hope you realise once you are infected with Landrover`itis there is known cure, sure you can put in remission. But at any time it can be back. Triggers are mates with Land rovers, passing a car yard with one out the front etc. I was taking my dog for a walk and passed a Jeep for sale, looked nice, but nah got a landy now :) Yep the seem to get to you. Already the signs are there for you. Don`t struggle to hard.

Now that you've got that off your chest and "come out" and admitted your real feelings , don't you fell better.:)
It's not easy coming out, some people are just born that way, it's to do with their genes. Counsilling can help some times, but if a person wishes to live that life then it's their right to and really we shouldn't try to discriminate.
Some are born the other way to grow up to be Toyota and Nissan Drivers:(
and others are born to rule and drive Landies:)
Just remember Landy Drivers will pray for you and maybe in the future you will see the light again and seek to join us once more.
Amen
PS. And when the Land Rover Heart on your avatar beats it's last beat of life and goes flat lining..... it will be replaced by some plastic from a patrol.

drove a defender yesterday and a gu today and the gu does have some merit for the same money. when the time comes not sure i could bring myself to spend $50k on a def with only front power windows and crap cd player. and not keen taking a d3/4 to hard offroad. :(
oh well just have to keep thinking about it for a few months, changed the driveline oils on the disco on return and happy to keep it a little longer.
