View Full Version : A couple of questions about the EAS...

Found a couple of things this week with the EAS that I need a bit more info on, so if anyone can help me, it would be appreciated.

Not sure if what it does is entirely normal, but it could be. The whole system in general works fine - all goes up and down as it should, and I also found out yesterday when I had the spare out for a bit of a poke around, that the compressor was replaced in 09, so pretty happy about that. Anyway, after the car has been sitting for a while - just a few hours really, not even overnight, and I get in and start it, the car seems to lift slightly - is it normal for them to drop a bit when sitting - I wouldn't have thought so. There are no faults, and it doesn't seem to sit down in one corner.

Along with this, I also notice that when I stop and get out and close the door, that something runs for a few seconds, and I think it is the compressor - again, any ideas?

Cheers - Gav

Hi Gav, mine will do this once in every 30ish starts, justs lifts the front slightly. don't think its a problem on mine but if yours does it every time maybe ther could be a slight leak. maybe go over it with the soapy water?

I think the noise when you get out is the cooling fans (like on a computer) inside the ecu box under the bonnet. This is normal i think

please let us know what you find

cheers

Mine does it too occasionally. Heres my theory. When you stop, it self levels by dropping down even to the lowest wheel.

Then when you start, it lifts to its pre-set ride height which, if you are on un-even ground is an average of all the heights added up.

Sounds normal, mine runs the e-box fan for 5 mins after shutdown and you hear it spin up when you get in the car before starting the engine. I see its been replaced once in the service history for being loud, my wife can't hear it at all.

Plus mine seems to move the blend flaps to fresh from recirc when I cut the engine also and I can just hear them whirring for a few seconds.

Thanks for the replies everyone, still trying to work out what is normal and what is not on these things:p

Happy to hear this sounds normal in the grand scheme of things.

Cheers - Gav

It is normal for the suspension to drop. EAS ecu wakes up every 6 hours and and lowers the suspension to the lowest corner, this also happens on P38's and classic's.
What your hearing could be the EAS ecu doing a self level after you get out. It wont alter heights with doors open.

Mine seems to hiss more thn the half dozen I have tried/been around. A real high pitched whistling hiss when going up or down.
