hello landrover owners, i am currently positoned in weipa trying to travel aus with my td 5 defender 99 and are TRAPPED! have exepted the fact im here for the wet. my car hasnt started now for 2 months! were do i start, firsly was camping at mapoon when trying to start failed. i noticed i couldnt hear my fuel pump, checked relay, had no v on the coil side of relay. chased up a wiring diagram on the engine management control. having a electrical backgronud on the 240 v side of things can read a schematic. fonud that the computer swithes the - side of coil. also discovered that my glow plugs, engine light werent appearing on the dash. also being controlled from the ecu. also found that my main relay was chattering not making a connection, and the ecu wasnt allowing me to go into the bleeding cycle. all fingers pointed to the ecu, as i had the wiring looms changed about a year ago, i had dramas with it before. not much oil is present in the red plug, asked my mechanics from british and they said it had to be fairly dripping with oil, to make it faulty. sent my computer away to get tested. my mechanics from sunny coast tested in another car, and everyhting worked fine. fuel pump, glows etc. they sent it back i put it in my car and everything was functioning correctly. what the ****. thought maybe a fault cleared... but still didnt start. my next step i purchased a second hand cps. still nothing. so i tested that by waving a steel bar back and forth past the magnet on the cps on continuity and was switching(did i test that right) went away on holidays came back and had another crack. now i dont have glow plugs, fuel pump, main relay. the same sympton as before. i nearly burnt it. but i have put to much love into this machine. the next day i went out for look, now i have every thing back. ok. well..tested to see if i had voltage going to the injectors. i did but it only pulsed once on each cranking of the engine, my led test lamp indicated, and had only 4 v on the the injector plug. so i tried puting a pulsing voltage of 12v strainght onto the wiring out to the injectors, to see if she would at least turn over, should i have done that? then i shorted out the + - of the injector wiring and i think have cooked the injector. heavy days. i should purchase a NANOCOM but am tight for CASH. back to the wiring diagram, but what else is there to stop my landy from going. i need a landrover wizard or sell my boat to buy another landy cause i love em! ppppppppppppppllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaassse eeee HELP ! thanks for having the paitence to read.

Had the same thing happen with my 130 engine light and glow plug light did not come on and fuel pump would not work
Had an auto elec pull his hair out over it
Finally fixed it some thing about the imoberlizer
Ring Kevin at Jordan RoverTech on 08 9350 5633 in perth
it was his auto elec that fixed it he works mainly on landrovers
might be abell to help
Cheers

Hi defendit,
I have a first gen nanocom here in Cairns with manuals.
I can send it to you if you think it will help?

Cheers,
Paul.

The injectors don't run on 12 volt
I understand that they actually run on 85 volt so your testing was probably flawed.
It sounds like an immobilizer issue to me. If the ecu was used in another car I would of thought that it would need to learn your AS10 Security again.
I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I will be along shortly.
The Nanocom offer seems like a good one to me
Also check that your battery is fully charged TD5s don't like poor voltage

2 things I thought of...
1/ As mentioned battery voltage.
The TD5 shuts the ECU down when a voltage triger point is reached, even though it's cranking over.
2/ Does it have fuel pump cut out switch on the fire wall like the Disco TD5's do?
On the Disco it's on the fire wall near the exhaust sheild.
Electric plug in the bottom and a rubber cover on top(@30mm dia.).
Key off, push buton from top(centre of rubber), key on and listen for fuel pump.

i don't think it'll be the inertia switch as the car was driving fine then wouldn't start the next morning......
if it was towed is the only reason the inertia switch may have tripped in this case......
its definitely worth checking though.......

but it could also be something as simple as the battery in the key remote......its caught me out before......

as too has a weak battery.....as mentioned above......still had enough power to crank over but it wouldn't fire......couldnt even clutch start it with a weak battery......

do you have the second key remote to try and see if that works.....?

sounds like it may just be the immobiliser doing its job......

. Eeerrr...No.
You may of fried an injector. As pointed out they run at 85V's and can deliver a high current. That can hurt.
As the injectors are so low resistance the longest they are switched on is 0.00064 seconds. And in that time will achieve a flow of seven amps. But after that period of time they have to switched off to avoid burning them out.

So the answer depends on how long each pulse was and how much current was flowing through the windings.

Sounds similar to what happened about two months ago.
No fuel pump sound (no fuel pump), no glow plug light on dash. Thought it was immobilizer....nope. Ended up being fuel pump and yellow relay for fuel pump that had been burnt up by excessive current from the ageing fuel pump.

Best of luck!

thanks for all the suggestions. i am going to have a play on it in the next few days. if no luck that nanocom offer would be un real. and would also like to grab that number to please, i havent used any mechanics in weipa yet. i think it might be time. cheers blake.

weather conditions and working hours are harsh in weipa at the moment struggling to find a chance to work on the white oxe, but have tried fully recharging my battery, and have no immobiliser/ remote key unluck. just picked up my new injector today. but will keep on persisting trying to find this intermittent fault, and other ideas welcome. chicken chow
