Hi,
I'm in the process of replacing the suspensions bushes and ball joints on my 110 ute while the tray is off and its all stripped down.
The problem I'm having is the rear ball joint. Its a bit rusted in place. From what I can see I have a few options i can follow.
1. Take it to a professional with a press and let them swap it over.
2. Heat it up until its really hot then try and hammer it out (really hard as i can't get it secure enough to really hit it.
3. Bite the bullet and buy my own hydraulic press (probably a super cheap one). I'm leaning towards option 3, i can envisage a press being very handy to replace all of the bushes through the car.

Does anyone know any other options or can steer in the correct direction?
Cheers,
Joe

Loctite have a product called "freeze and Release" in a pressure pack can. The theory is that when you spray this stuff all over it rapidly cools the affected area and causes micro cracking in the rust. The lubricant then seeps in and enables you to undo the bits. I've used it a few times and it seems to work...

I went to Supercheap the other day and apparently they ditched Loctite lines quite awhile ago ...you might find it at Rep$$$co...

Got mine replaced at the next door neighbours engineering workshop. Took a 20 tonne press to get it out and even then it struggled. Glad I didn't try it at home
Not sure what pressure the SCA presses are, but doubt it is anywhere near 20T.

heres a guide
Guide to Fitting Defender A-Frame Balljoint | Repair My Landrover (http://www.repairmylandrover.co.uk/defender-repairguides/a-frame-balljoint-renewal)

I just heated mine with the gas axe and soaked in wd40 , then heated again the next day , sprayed wd40 and bashed it out in 3 whacks of a lump hammer.
