Today while driving the 2a I had issues.
When driving the vehicle was fine until I reached, basically, any incline and the load on the engine increased. Then, it'd start surging, backfiring, stalled a few times. Everything was fine on a downhill run.

Could this be an issue with the fuel pump?

Any advice would be helpful.

It sounds like a classic case of fuel starvation, typically due to a blocked pickup strainer in the tank, an air leak in the suction side of the pump, or a failing pump. BUT, I have also seen exactly these symptoms from the points closing up, and since this is the easiest to check, I would do this first. Could also be other igniition shortcomings such as high tension leads or capacitor, but less likely.

Indeed it could be a fuel issue but it could also be that on an incline the motor will be under strain so I would check the points and spark plugs and make sure the leads are in good condition.

I had a good poke around today tried to tighten up any part of the fuel system before the pump. There was evidence of a bit of a leak coming from the union at the tank select switch. Nipped it up half a turn and we're back in business.
Thanks for the advice.
Laying under the vehicle doing contortions to reach a bolt makes you realise how silly you are when you notice how accessible it would have been if you just removed the centre hatch on the seat box...
