Got the dreaded letter last week from civic compliance (yeah right) about supposedly being caught by the Wellington Rd camera doing 108kph, now i always make sure i'm not speeding on this rd and even back off before coming up to toll/speed camera's but was going to just pay up.
That was till i went to my parents place last night and found mum (who was following me back from Philip Island) got done exact same time same camera but supposedly doing 111kph, now this is just impossible as for one she was behind me and no where to be seen and no way does she speed as she is lucky to do 95kph and if she was done exact same time down to the minute going faster than me she would have been on my tail.

I am going to contest it although dont really want to have to go to court over it, anyone else been done by this camera and contested it ?

This is the same camera where that cop got off for speeding! Apparently she had a passenger in the car who could back up her story that it was on cruise control at 100 kmh.And of course she got off.Good luck with it mate.It is a well known hot spot for fines.I think the cameras were tested(calibrated) there not long ago.Alot of people had been complaining that they were not speeding through there and had received a fine.

That one is PITA - been done there myself, but mine was only for 104 (alledged speed was 107) which I swear I wasn't doing, but I may have been over by a couple of KM. I didn't contest it, but I slow down to about 95 every time I go under it.

I'm looking at getting a camera to put in my windscreen that shows the speed, time & date - they are quite cheap now, so I can contest further fines if they happen.

If the Gubment wants to have any credibility about "Road Safety Cameras" (Revenue cameras) then they would take the peoples point of view seriously about reported faults on them, and release a full 3rd party report on when and how these things are tested...

If there is a cabinet under the bridge in the middle of the roads, then there are camera's under the bridge. Also under other bridges on Eastlink, one under the Dandy bypass ( I think). My streetfinder gives alerts.
& Yes, Wellington Rd is well known for false readings.

I have never contested one but my old man recently got off.

Just write them a letter, similar words to your initial post. Say you are a good driver and aware of speed limits and always try and do the right thing but on this occassion....yadda yadda yadda

Best not to say they were wrong but that you always try and do the right thing but this was a random aberration.

Helps if you have no points

Yes you can do this, my wife did and I know others that did and were sucessful.
However they were all speeding and admitted that they were.

So getting off is not really the point, the camera should be accurate and repeatably so, or it should not be used as a speed detection device.
If the accuracy and repeatability can't be tied down to better than 2 or 3kph then it should be set at least 10kph above the limit.

If you have not had an infringement for two years and the offence is a one pointer (less than 10 over), if you write them a letter you will be let off. This was published in the press a few years ago and I tested it and it worked.

It fits the bill so i will be writing a nicely worded letter to them ;).
