Hmmmm! I might "polish" it with my Rupes orbital sander and 120grit paper between 3 & 9 o'clock & remeasure.

When I looked at 9 & 10 o'clock, that's where the starter mounts & the inner lip of the plate is real thin. There was a def dimple there too so i don't think it has anything significant to do with the overall concentric integrity.

Firstly is your adapter a close fit on the lip of the bellhousing? i.e. Can you offer up the adapter to the bell (without the studs in place) and not move it up and down, side to side on the bellhousing?

If it wobbles around, you should be aligning on the centres of the studs.

I'm not prepared to risk misalignment by removing the plate, but, I see your point Diana & will replace the studs & check again on the stud centres.

I polished up the surface & checked again for flatness:

Some studs were crook mainly at the top & near the starter & I had to re-tap from 3/8ths to 7/16ths UNC. They will all be going back with a good blob of epoxy putty in the threads & on the bits that poke thru the adaptor.
I may even try to get nuts onto them but there's no room.
