I have someone from Europe (the Nehterlands) wanting to buy some Landrover parts. I personally feel it may be a scam but will give them the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise (why not source them in the UK where they are surely more plentiful but postage is cheaper).

We would be talking about 3 or 4 fairey overdrives on a pallet, so about 100 - 120kg give or take a little for the pallet, packaging and the cubic weight. The cheapest I could find with signature and insurance was close to $600, the guy seems to think this is a bit high (well it is but you have to expect it isn't going to be cheap) and wants to know if it can be freighted for around $150. I don't think this is likely but I'll put it out there - has anyone used any bargain basement shippers by slowest method possible to send heavy items overseas? Something like sea mail which takes about 6 weeks to arrive? Any helpful tips would be appreciated.

$600 seems a good price actually. I recently tried to get costs for shipping a P76 engine to the UK and it was astronomical, almost cheaper to ship an entire car back in a container !

It might be worth trying someone like Fedex, the chap I'm trying to sort the engine out for had a quote in the UK from them of £230 to ship from here.

Based on a best guess of 120kg for 3 or 4 overdrives and a small crate or pallet, quotes were between $360 and $440. Not allowing for my packing time and materials, nor allowing for freight from the destination port or customs clearances etc etc. The guy expected it to cost about $150. I think he's a little bit off in his estimation.

Agreed..$600 doesn't sound too bad. Keep us in the loop if it starts to look like a scam!

I would have thought that a overall total might give a better idea of whether its a scam or not. Good Faireys are expensive in Europe.
