Main Event Sale?

Hi Guys,

I am interested in a Puma Defender and just have a couple of questions on the main event sale.

It looks like the main event sale has just been extended from January 31 to February 29 cut off.

1. But does anyone know when it started?

2. The sale is available on MY11 & MY12 vehicles so its not just run-out stock, which makes me wonder if it will possibly get extended again? what do you think?

3. What sort of $ have you been able to negotiate off the Main Event Sale Price? $39,990 for the 90 & $49,990 for the 110.

Was also looking at the option of a second hand Puma but have been checking on Carsales every now and then, and its quite surpising that most second-hand Defenders are listed very close to the new prices (think a few $K below) and some are actually listed even higher. This is quite surprising when you consider that second hand you still have to add $ for stamp duty & Renewal of Rego/greenslip and thats without even taking into account, age, wear, reduction of warranty, condition, etc. Without extremely negotiating with the seller, their doesnt' really seem to be any value buying second hand.

So it looks like new it is.

Anyway if someone can answer my questions, I would much appreciate it. Thanks.

They really haven't increased in price all that much.
I must have paid close to that in 2001 for a td5 110 - mind you, it had a few extras :angel:
My 90 was about $40K in 2005.

I s'pose the value of the Aussie dollar is finally having an impact.

My 90 was closer to 60K.. but it's a limited edition and has extra's.. we were not able to negotiate very much off the price at all (despite having done so with other cars in the past).. you might do better asking for a couple of extra's (sidestep, snorkel etc) and paying the coin they are asking (after all that's a very good price!).. :)

These prices are less than I paid for my 110 3 years ago. When I bought it the dealer knocked a couple of grand off but then threw in some extra's (bullbar, snorkel and side steps) to get the deal over the line.

I bought my 90 this time last year during their main event sale last year.
It was a saving of $10K.
I paid about $38K plus options.
The deal was to take the delivery of the car before March and anything else after is at normal price.

Had a test drive on Saturday, The sales person told me the sale only included the 90 & only on the 2011 models. They have 2 colours but not the one i'm after & informed me take it or leave it, they could not source one from any where for me :(.
Looks like i will have to go into state to get a black one.

Black ones look great but I wouldn't buy one.
They show up every little scratch (which you will get) and every little ripple in the bodywork - which they come with standard!:D

In mid January I went to the local dealer who only had a black MY11 2.4 in stock. They were able to find me a Red MY12 with the new 2.2 motor for 39k....and I went ahead a ordered a few extras and pick it all up in two weeks....they were every willing to help, as long as I signed and paired a $1k deposit.....now counting the days.....:cool:

I take it you tried Bruce Lytton on the Coast.. there is also a dealer in Brisbane you could try there too.. :)

Yeh thats definitely not the case, check on Carsales.com.au it has "New" car listings aswell or try some other dealers. However as mentioned you will be at the liberty of whatever that dealer has in stock or has ordered in. But you can just ring around to different dealers to get what you want.

I'm glad somebody brought up the topic of the "Main Sale". As I've been shopping around for a 130 recently there was quite a bit of confusion amongst the dealers as to what it applied to. Apparently in the details that were sent to them it only mentioned 90's and 110 wagons, turns out though that it does apply to 130's and the other variants. Not sure if this confusion was limited to S.A. or not.

Wow! $48k? Where from? Sunshine Coast dealer?

Brizzy Dealer won't talk 2012 Defenders below $54k though I haven't tried too hard yet. Get bored with the tales of woe and that it's only the 2011 models on discount.

The 2012 MY models are also on discount provided they have already landed in Oz, at least that's what the local dealer has said.

I just picked up a MY2012 Puma in Melbourne, ordered it during the main event sale on January 12 and the Melb City Dealer was able to tell me what they had coming into the country over the next few shipments. Came to $43,000 with all the extras.

Yours isnt white is it? Waved to a 90 yesterday on Old Moorooduc Rd thinking it was my wife (in our white 90)
What extras did you get to bring it up to 43000.

Spoke to the boys at Bruce Linton LR at closing & the Main Event has been extended until the end of the month.
Just need to sell that van :)
