I was running late to catch a plane the other day so very quickly grabbed a copy of 4x4 mag. They had their annual 4x4 of the year in it....blah blah, anyway, it was just to pass away the time from th coat hanger to a real city:)
In amongst all the crap, they had the new LC200 "Poverty Pack' ARE THEY KIDDING!
$77,900 (+ ORC)for a 4wd with vinyl floors, manual air (instead of climate control), barn style rear doors and bugger all else!
It had the worst economy of the 6, had 'wallowing' suspension and every critic said that it was a monster on the tracks with great care needed to avoid damage. Driver position was 'nice and high' but you still can't see the corners etc etc.....
I reckon if I was spending $80k a base model D4 would be looking pretty smart in my driveway!
BTW the RR Sport came in above the LC200 from memory and the only thing that let it down was the 20" wheels, other than that every judge thought it was 'sublime'.

Look, It has been introd at the demand of the mines as they do not like the troopy style LCs.
I would think that they do not care how many they sell to private people as the mines will buy thousands.

Lokes like a radome on the top, like a AH64 Apache
Some people still want a 4x that you can wash out with a hose, (wonder where the computer is) pity the FJ Cruiser don't have Diesel, Also a Pity neither come in Manual.
Notice the spec sheet makes no mention of the independent suspension, I think the commercial sector wants (needs) live axles.

They've obviously had to do something dust ingress to the motor has been a serious issue for the V8 70 series and the 200 series for quiet some time, although if you ask Toyota its all fine not a problem.

My main point was the label 'Poverty Pack' at $80k!

It will still have the same problem with water/mud as the old one and they still burn oil and the cabs will still fill with dust in the bush, and for 80K they have as much standard features as a series 3. Pat

Maybe so.........................but the power/torque. My old SIII diesel wagon DEFINED the term gutless. And no crappy vacuum 'storage' tank, the brakes may even actually work! But I take your point.

The problem with the V8 is it was not designed for a 4wd,worst of all the LC was not designed for a V8.We fitted bigger mud flaps, guards, splash plates etc and it doesn't matter, water is still directed straight into the alternator from the front wheel and once it dries the dirt left laps the guts out of them and they stop, same for the starter,it's just a mud trap.PITA to service,PITA to repair and worst of all the timing belt runs off the water pump so a 10 grand plus motor has it's life in the hands of a $8 bearing. Many are in graveyards and are being replaced by Mahindra's. From my industry experience they have priced it at 80K because no private buyers will buy.
However seeing that the main /only buyers will be mines etc, then Toyota will then offer them a massive "discount" which isn't a discount at all, if you get the drift.
IMHO its the same with Hiluxes etc. This has enabled all the manufacturers to jack up the prices of twin cab utes to what I consider unbelievable levels. If a falcon can be sold foir around 35K there is NO WAY that the production cost of a twin cab ute IN THAILAND is more than that of a Falcon.
BTW I saw a test of an FJ40 Cruiser the other day $25K in USA and $40 k here.
And the dollar is worth over 1USD.
Hmmmmm.

Just like most engines equipped with timing belts.

Reading that PDF it reads like the centre diff does not lock, but uses a torsen centre diff and traction control for 4WD.
