I would have thought some one would have posted before now :(

Anyway here is mine...

Arthur was asked which vehicle he would like to go for the run in...

He said the 101, as I have never seen one before:o go figure:confused:

The first official outing of SLO started differently for different people and for us it began pretty early as we were at the servo taking on fuel for the day. A young bloke asked could he takes some photos of Daisy and Onslow and as we agreed he began to talk and it came out that he also owns a series vehicle, one that he originally purchased to renovate but it turned out that the metal worm in the chassis and firewall became too overpowering so he decided to take it to the wreckers. Needless to say those plans have since been altered and we should be able to scrounge a few spare parts before getting rid of the rusty bits.
After fueling and cementing this particular contact, we headed off back homewards and joined up with the Ho Hars, Carolyn in Numpty's S 1 and Harry in the 101, Harry J and his son in the Ho Hars "Zara", and Outlaw driving his Defender so off we set.
Round about 1030 or so we pulled up at Bullocky's Rest where there were already a few even earlier arrivals from points further afield than us, from Gympie and other northern climes as well as from far distant Ipswich.
As the day progressed others turned up and some of the later attendees traveling down from Bundaberg were Nan and Pop in the "black one" (their magnificent Rover 75 sedan) and Incisor in "Johnny", Nan and Pop's workshop.

Of course this outing had been organised as not only a celebration of a couple of birthdays but also as a means to welcome and introduce our new Patron, Arthur Goddard to the club and vice versa.
Our President Col. Coleman made a welcoming speech, announced the fact that officially SLO was up and running and also called Arthur forward to make a presentation on behalf of the club to recognise the fact that he had graciously accepted the invitation to be the Patron of the club.

Arthur accepted this gift graciously and returned to his seat after a few kind words only to be called forward once again to cut the "birthday cake".

As per previous trips that have been done by the "leafer" community, this BBQ was very similar in that the ladies supplied a beautiful array of sweets etc.
The day progressed very smoothly with a mass of little huddles gathering around different vehicles all day and slowly rotating around the car park, talking, looking, and admiring, and also one or two outsiders were attracted to the great collection of elderly vehicles and a couple of potential new members who already have Series vehicles were unearthed.
Later after the lunch that had been generously donated by a major "sponsor" (Col Coleman) had been consumed and settled, most of the group saddled up for a short local run around a small dirt road circuit in the vicinity.

Not all went, Daisy and Onslow stayed behind (to protect the car parking spots) as did Paul and Ronnie's "Black one. (watch for the "Royal wave" from the back window!)

One last shot that I cannot resist posting is of two of our members, Tim J and Anne, discussing the finer points on the difference between a "130" and an "80".

Well folks,
The workload in our shed is such that we were unable to get our S2A to the event. :(
However, the Ho Har's kindly lent us Zara for the day. (Thanks guys).

So we arrived at the Ho Hars place at about 8.30am and left half an hour later. We soon met up with Josh (Outlaw) in his 110, and Glenn & Patsy in their two Series.
So we had a convoy of no less than six Landys holding up the traffic :p enroute to our desination.
We finally arrived at Bullocky's Rest at Lake Samsonvale where there were already some arrivals.

The Birthday boy and patron of SLOw soon arrived and we all chatted with him about his days at Rover, while Col. Coleman and Cheryl flipped the snags on the BBQ. ;)

Many photos were taken (I took 72 ).

After lunch, Arthur was presented with a plaque honouring his key role in the early days of Landrover, and of his gracious acceptance as Patron of SLOw. He was then asked to cut the cake, which we then proceeded to make smaller and smaller. . . . :o

After tea and cake, many of us went on short scenic drive and photo shoot. :D It was a great route - thanks Michael.

Time was getting on, and it was soon time to head back home again. The trip was relatively smooth, although we lost Glenn :o.
Back at the Ho Har's, we had a cold drink to finish off the day and HH welded the handle back on our frypan.

Thanks to all, it was a great day,
Harry Jnr

And a few of the Series 1's - after all, Arthur had absolutely nothing to do with the 2's, 3's or anything else.....:tease:

Arthur spent a good deal of time talking about those halcyon days...I learnt a great deal about Maurice Wilks' tea drinking habits and the fact that the commute to the Minerva factory in Antwerp was quicker that driving to Birmingham....:D...

Eventually lunch was taken - and many thanks again to the General and CC for providing another tasty BBQ lunch. Arthur found yet another friend in Lamington...

We, the SLOW committee, had taken steps to organise a formal presentation to Arthur to affirm his status as the Patron of the Series Landy Owners Inc. I think he was well pleased and humbled to receive the shield honouring him....

All in all, a lovely day out. It was inspiring to meet such a fine gentleman and I look forward to many more such encounters.

With so many lovely vehicles to look over, we spent some time taking picks of a few of them...

Keith's Tickford again...

I perched above the Gateway Motorway on one of the overpasses hoping to get some shots of The HH convoy then catch up to it before they got to Bullocky's Rest. The convoy was going to fast and I didn't catch it. I arrived at Bullocky's Rest to a treat of series vehicles and good people. I met Arthur Goddard , had a ride in Ho har's 101 and Mrs Ho har took me for a drive in Leon. A Delicious BBQ lunch was cooked by the Col. and the General, also a selection of mouth watering cakes were provided by the lovely ladies that attended. Thank you to all for your efforts in making the event the best SLOw trip to date. Here are some pictures that i took on the day, I wont double up with what Zulu Delta has shown you.

Thanks all for posting. Glad the day turned out so well and it's a pity I couldn't have joined you all. I'm a few thousand k's away at the present, at work :(

Thanks also for the many photos. Now I need to get copies of the ones of Leon. Mrs HH has already told me how much she enjoyed driving him and how well he behaved on the day. Of course he behaved, he was in some very august company after all. There's some lovely vehicles there and I'm looking forward to drooling over Jason's 107 at some stage.

What an awesome turnout of vehicles (and a couple of terrific reasons to celebrate).

While I am impressed by the quality of vehicles on show, I have a question - is that a Series 1 Station Wagon I see in some of the pictures?

If so - I have never seen one before. I love it!

Cheers,

Did Arthur have a chuckle about the other necessary piece of expedition garb, the trusty Pith. I see Scollops has one, and then Killer has one, or was it the same one doing the rounds. I noticed CC left his on the stand next to the elephant gun for the day.

Just wondering if I missed something in the small print regarding SLOw's membership requirements. I'm not sure I can explain a pith helmet to the wife, but sure would be funny with a dozen Series nuts pulling up somewhere with the faithful expedition hat on. :p

Mrs hh:angel:We know Mrs Ho Har, you were thinking that would be a good wagon to have on a station weren't you! ;)

It would give the poor old draft horses a rest!

Given the auspicious occasion I thought it better to attempt to be a little more respectable, hence I was wearing the Vehicle Components hat to support those who are supporting us. I also had my M R Automotive stubby cooler:D

Never fear, the Pith will be back. For the record, it was between the Elephant gun and the Blunderbuss on the gun rack in the Estate Wagon. Mine was the one Arthur wore on the photo shoot on his birthday.

The wearing of the Pith is something to be nurtured and encouraged. I can still hear the wonderful comments of the locals when we called into a country pub one evening, regarding Tigers and buffalo.

Whose is the spotty dog and what is it's breed?

We have a pound puppy of very similar size and paint job and we're stumped.

That's Lamington, (because of the spots, and she's a Queenslander) she is a Border Collie / Blue Cattle Dog cross. At least that is what the RSPCA told us when we picked her up.

Cheers, Mick.

If any of you happen to be in the caravan fraternity then you possibly have already seen this report that appeared in "Caravan world" back in the May 2012 edition. If not then here is a chance to read it now.

I don't know whether this copy is still available at newsagents but this copy was given to me by one of the Army bods at Enoggera the other day who recognised me from the included photograph and thought I may be interested.
