Hi All,
The black plastic flares on the D3 are great, you can scape them against banks and scratch them with tree branches but it is hard to keep them looking clean and "Black" as they tend to grey over time.
On the Disco3.UK site there has been discussion on the best way to clean them up. Two methods have been mentioned the most.
1 - Use peanut butter!
2 - Use WD40, I have used this but it tends to dry out quickly and go splotchy.
But since I have tried this Tyre Shine from Super Cheap Auto, about $3.85 a can.
Magic stuff it does a great job, simply spray onto a rag and wipe over the surfaces of all the exterior black plastic. Looks and lasts great.

BTW it's also good on tyres! ;)

Hi Rich
Assuming the trim on the D3 is the same as the D4 I've had some very good results from Meguiers Ultimate Protectant. The bottle I found on their website has no spray trigger, but I'm sure mine did (I leant it to my nephew to do his ute cover & haven't seen it since). It was about 26 bucks from my local independent store.
When I find it I'll post it up..

Strangely I found for cleaning wheel cleaner worked well on the red mud staining. (I had some alover the engine bay) it cleaned it beutifully. You need to treat it afterwards to get it shiny.

Off subject but still cleaning !
The white steel wheels on my van have copied a fair bit,
from Territory red mud, to the red and black mud from around the Hughendon area, short of a lot of elbow grease I gave up.
Was using some $2 spray cans of foaming degreaser from the cheap shop splashed some on a rim and could not believe it.. Gave a wheel a good spray and then hosed it off all came up like new, even the boss approved ?

Spoke to a bloke that works at my local Autobahn store on the weekend.
He is right into his car detailing and will tell you everything you need to know about every product, as he has used them all.
For the black plastic trim he recommended 'Autoglym Instant Tyre Dressing'. Its in a spray bottle.
You spray it onto a rag and wipe it on.
He claims that it lasts longer than anything he has used in the past and won't attract dust etc.
Brought a bottle myself but havent used it as yet.
Cheers, Craig

I've been using the Autoglym Tyre stuff for a while now - and it's great, try their glass cleaner too - it's the best glass cleaner I've ever used !!!!
Their stuff is a bit dearer but well worth it.
cheers

There is also a die called "Forever Black". It works very good on the trim and comes off fairly easy if it gets on the metal. No need to reapply or at least not for the 2 years I have had it on all the trim and bumper. It will turn the greyish trim black though - a little darker than stock, this is based on a new tow hitch cover I just purchased which is really dark grey compared to black like the rest of the trim. The guys with Black paint jobs like it as it better matches the paint. I ordered it online in the statesa, should be available down under also.

Forever Black, available (at least in WA) from Supa ----
Good stuff, lasts for years on Jap exterior trim such as mirrors, looking like it might be just as good on LR - grade plastic.
I've even used it on the RRC's faded matt-black painted window frames, and its holding up ok.
