Hi Guys,

I'm after a bit of advice regarding my headlights on the 2006 defender 110. I fitted the Traxide upgrade about 12 months ago and have been really happy with the lights working just fine. the other day the headlights just stopped working one day they worked then when I went to drive home not working any more.

I have tried all the fuses, and the wiring is all still intact. when I put the switch on all the dash lights still work the side lights work and the tail lights work fine but I have no headlights. even the hight beam switch ( on the indicator stalk) wont turn them on also the spotties are not working on high beam.

when i turn the lights on the switch i can hear the relay clicking behind the dash and also the two relays for the headlight upgrade appear to me making the right noises also.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows of a fix before i call out a sparky to fix it up for me.

Cheers

Josh

Have you checked there is power on the main supply to the relays. I had this happen and it was the traxide supplied circuit breaker thing had failed. I just bypassed it to get me out of trouble.

thanks.... I just tried this as I wasn't sure about the circuit breaker thing but then it still wont work... I'm beginning to think that its a failure of some component within the upgrade kit like the relays or something like that....

Hi Josh,

Have you checked the fuses in the Traxide Supplied Relays?

It's the relay, mine did the same thing, pop the cover off the relay and you'll find the contacts burnt off. Pat

Is this a problem with the Traxide upgrade kit as I am having troubles with my lights on my Defender now and I am thinking about putting this kit in for my lights, at the moment my headlights are only working when they want to, it is in the switch and have had many poeple say you need to put the upgrade kits in to fix it, but don't want to put a upgrade kit in if it will play up and do the same thing, I have owned my defender for 4 years now and when I first got it the lights played up but after cleaning the contacts in the switch I had no more problems with them till the last week, have cleaned the contacts again but still playing up.

Relax folks, a relay is about $14 max.

There is virtually nothing that can go wrong with these aftermarket looms.
So what if you have to replace a relay every couple of years, although mine have now lasted about 15 years.

traxide carries them but there is a shortage of them at the moment i believe.
