Hey guys after doing a water crossing a few weeks ago I have noticed that my diff oil is milky. Would I damage anything if I warmed up the oil in the diggs before the change by driving in 4 high on the freeway. Or would just a normal drive in 2 high warm the oil enough?
Thx

As long as you don't have free wheeling hubs, both diffs will warm up in 2 wheel drive. If you have FWH, lock them. But still keep it in 2 high.
Don't drive in 4WD on grippy surfaces unless you have no option!

If you have contaminated oil in the diffs, you are better off NOT driving the vehicle.By driving the vehicle you are just coating all the parts in contaminated oil.Just drain the oil and let the vehicle stand and drain. You can put the drain plug back in and add a little fresh oil and then drain it back out to remove any contaminated oil that may have been sitting in the bottom of the diff.

Agreed, much better to change out all the oil. If possible let it sit and separate the water out (will settle to the bottom) and drain all, this will prevent milky oil being left coating the inside of the case. Otherwise if you don't have much oil and are stuck, let sit and drain off the water only and top up with fresh oil.
