Hi all,

I found this pack ( Molly Mac Pack - We took the pack out of the backpack (http://www.mollymacpack.com/pack.html) ) recently and thought some on here might be interested. I have been emailing MacEntyre who designed and makes it. It seems like a nice piece of kit, and I intend on getting one. Certainly different from most of the current designer packs.

That's pretty interesting, by my calks around 1250g for the pack; and made from cordura it will last a life time. Looks good for fine weather walking.
Though it it rained for a bit I'd image a pack cover may suffice to cover all your gear. However I've yet to find a water proof one.
I think eventually if the rain was heavy and consistent water would make it's way between you and the harness, and potentially wetting clothes, food, sleeping bag ect. If you were to wrap each item in a water proof bag than you may as well buy a light weight standard pack with a dog bag as a liner to achieve the same thing.

Not sure what you'd want all those tools, but if that was the intended use stuff getting wet doesn't matter.

Jason - It certainly wont suit everyone. I think it will suit me, I already have a heap of dry bags which I use for sea kayaking, and also use for day to day camping at different times. No more digging around in a big bag for things suits me.

When I get it I will do a road test in some dodgy conditions, along with my hennessy hammock and report back. Could be in a few months time though as we are moving house and having a baby all in the next couple of months.

Hey mate I have only received the pack a couple of weeks ago, so havent had a chance to test it out. It looks well made, and is obviously very light. Hopefully give it a test run soon.

Id be interested to hear what you think about it once you get out there.
Any idea much it weighs with the waist belt and shoulder straps? I can only find specs on the frame.

Interesting idea. I've just started looking into packs for hiking actually. I went and tried on this one:

Strezlecki | One Planet (http://oneplanet.com.au/bushwalking-packs/strezlecki.html)

Waterloc canvas material looked pretty awesome to me.

No mate but I will email Mac and find out. It is bloody light though. The shoulder straps aren't as padded as other packs, but are relatively wide - more so than other packs I think.

I have only heard good things about the One Planet gear.

Not really suited to doing the overland track or similar.

But I could use one of these on my property for weed clearing.

At the moment I try to squeeze all my tools, weed killer etc. into a day pack, which doesn't work to well.

Cheers for that! :twobeers:
What an awsome design, Ive just ordered one in tan and black.
When using it for 2 to 3 days walks I'm planning on using this...

USMC SealLine Insert Dry Bag Mac Sack ILBE 65 Liter Hiking Canoeing Boating NEW | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/USMC-SealLine-Insert-Dry-Bag-Mac-Sack-ILBE-65-Liter-Hiking-Canoeing-Boating-NEW-/280882524404?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4165e730f4#ht_1867wt_922)

Either that or three of the 18ltr bags stacked horizontally one on top of tne other like the Luxurylite Stackpack system i gave a link to above.

I think that is the beauty of this pack - the versatility.

Good stuff mate. Mac is good to deal with as well.

Mine will get a good workout on a 4 day coastal work in September.

Ok. I am just starting to get into some more serious walks since getting this pack - hasn't taken too long .

I recently did a day walk up Higgs Track and had it lightly loaded with more food than I needed, spare thermals, rain jacket, thick polar fleece jacket, first aid kit. On the belt I had 2 bottles of water, camera, knife, some snacks, mobile phone. Weather was cold, overcast but no rain to speak of.

The pack was extremely comfortable but I would expect that with a light load. I could hardly notice the pack, it felt great. Having gear on the belt I found made things like camera, snacks, water really easy to access, without having to stop.

I am still really happy with the pack, and will hopefully be doing more diverse walks over the next few months with some more weight, and inevitably in some Tassie rain, so will report back with how it goes, if people are interested.

Will let you know about the Overland Track, as I am possibly doing it next March, and depending how the pack performs over the next few months, I may consider using it.
