fender front recovery points/hooks

Hi

Off to the Cape in June and need to fit recovery points re snatch strap
usage while I can buy standard recovery hooks at local 4wd shop are there any specific ones made for defenders.

Have fitted sump guard, roofrack, spare wheel carrier, as there are a few
of us going no need for winch or lockers,

JATE rings are the things you are after. They bolt straight through the chasis rail. By having one on each side you can have use a bridle if you wish.

Google will show you that there are two styles and two sizes.

The styles are welded (they look rectangular with tubular section welded between two plates) and forged (a constant section bent into a "u" shape).

I use the forged as I think they are stronger and will distribute the force from an uneven load better. I think that the welded ones have the potential of slipping the load to one corner and stressing that weld to its breaking point.

The width is to cater for the different width of the chasis chasis rail (front and rear) and the addition of accessories to the same mounting point (steering guards, bull bars, tow bars etc). So measure twice and buy once! (I have bought all mine from the UK)

Always a good idea to spend a bit of money on a good bridal well to spread the load, regardless of which recovery points you settle for. ARB sells a decent one made from Dyneema, the same material synthetic winch lines are made off.

MR Automotive (Max Drive) make non-rated recovery points for Defenders.

There has been some discussion on here regarding a possible issue with their design creating a pivot point. (I plan to discuss with an engineer mate who lives interstate, next time I see him.)

As Loubrey said, you must use a bridle or equalizer strap!
